Ne Touche Pas Moi is definitely too obvious, even for this group. And they're definitely punk rock, idk wtf Joe went so far as to say something like that. lol I sort of brushed that even aside forever ago though. Anyways, I'm almost finished with this and it's for sure a romp.

I haven't heard this yet, but IDLES definitely just won Album Cover of the Decade.

It's cool, I prefer the Brutalism cover most though. I'm more into the pretentious abstraction look than the fun loving one.

Edit: This is good af but I dig the first 2 LPs more.

It's a lot like Joy, and I'd rather listen to Joy than most of this. But it's still a helluva lot of fun.

Talbot isn't trying to be Dylan, I don't mind being hit in the face with his lyricism this time around.

I mean, Dylan isn't exactly the lyrical bar for me. He wastes a lot of time on singing stuff that's barely coherent despite being great. Just "consent consent consent" is sort of phoned in to me. No other way for me to take it. Why not tell/make up a story about how a friend was assaulted and how horrible it is, y'know? That'd be more compelling, for sure.

Loved Joy but the singles I've heard ahead of this haven't thrilled me. Guess we'll have to see

It sounds great, I like the backing vocals, it harks back to some of the aggression on the first album. What I don't like it is the constant piss poor lyrical content and tamer vocals. Yes, we get you're fighting for your liberal ideals albeit whilst under the pretence of being working class whilst going mainstream and raking in the cash. Nice one.

"Yes, we get you're fighting for your liberal ideals albeit whilst under the pretence of being working class whilst going mainstream and raking in the cash. Nice one."

This is a tired detraction imo. Jason Williamson of Sleaford Mods harped on and on about this and Joe retorted that they've never once tried to disguise themselves as working class. He said something to the effect of that he can say what he thinks about the injustices he sees around him regardless of his privilege and I'm inclined to agree. You could make the same argument about something like Bruce Springsteen. lol

"Brutalism is still their best record."

I can see this. Switches between Brutalism and Joy on a day to day basis for me. 1049 Gotho is still my fav song of theirs.
