Idk if this is the kind of band that writes sober or does psychedelics but either way they should lock biffy clyro in a studio with them for a month and make an album together. In this fantasy of mine Id prefer they force Biffy to do psychedlics while writing and recording.

"I love this, but it's not even their best album when Deep States exists. Storm, stopping making daft comparisons to inferior things, okay thanks
(well, except Lips, some of their stuff is almost as good so I'll allow it on that basis alone)"
Lmao demon. I need to listen to Deep States!!!

Deep States is not better than this (or Braindrops, for that matter)
It is v good though, all Liddiard albums between this, The Drones, Springtime, solo album - impeccable

I don’t really think it’s much of a stretch to say that Gareth is legitimately one of the best rock songwriters ever.
His output between this and Drones is so ridiculously consistent.
I haven’t listened to this in a minute, glad you commented storm

This defo has some all-time bops
Time for a deep re-compare while I massage my smooth brain

Nice bump! It's by far their best release, but admittedly, I'm not familiar with The Drones. Quite a rollercoaster ride, the one I enjoy every time I jam this. And why shouldn't I do it now?

Most complete album I reckon is I See Seaweed, but Wait Long by the River is prob the easiest entry with just a bunch of killer tunes

Oh wait I see you got some weirdfolk high up in your rates, don't sleep on Gala Mill either, a little more opaque but some impeccable dusty folk music DNA underpinning the noisier bits that sound like they got played on rusting guitar strings

Thanks, much appreciated, it will keep me busy for a while!

I’ll second I See Seaweed. Its overall their best album imo. The title track is just absolutely massive and kinda emblematic of their discography as a whole.

Hmm, need to check (only heard Gala Mill / Havilah… both good)
This is still fantastic! Gonna see if Braindrops has improved with time

The Drones and TFS are equally special to me. I discovered both of these bands in the last 3 years and what a wonderful ride it has been. Countless (and I mean countless) hours of jamming everything they've ever done.

I was lead here after becoming obsessed with Nick Cave, so anyone on this thread that hasn't dug into his discography should really do themselves the favor also

what was it specifically that brought you here after Cave? (other than Australianness)
guess Nick has noise rock roots from his TBP days, but erm yeah would never had made the connection

Something about the ambiguous violence of Cave's delivery on his early/mid career albums. I also clicked on a profile here from a guy that had a Nick Cave avatar (procupine?) and saw that he had this album 5'd as well as some Cave. I didn't realize at the time I was already familiar with Liddiard through Springtime and was like "this guys voice sounds familiar" and then it just took shape from there.

yeah, that certainly sounds like porc!
I've been on absolute massive Cave bender this past year or so, addictive (massive) discog and I blame porc's presence as being the catalyst for my beautiful plight
Interesting thoughts... guess I can see it in relation to vocal delivery, at times
