Not listened to this enough yet, but;
Fortress => Kezia > Palimpsest > Scurrilous > Pacific Myth > Volition.

I really struggle with Rody's vocals on this one. The vocals do sound different, but I think it's mostly about the vocal lines themselves. Also he rarely shuts up which has been a problem for pretty much all their discog. I like the music enough, All Hands is definitely a highlight for me after one listen.
I'll spin it many more times but after one listen it's nowhere close to Volition or Fortress for me.

Rody just sounds more comfortable doing vocals again.

He will start to sound more normal after a few listens. You're right though, there is a difference

He sounds a lot better in the second half when he's not trying to push the high notes as much.

nice, thanks, shows how little i've been paying attention
i'm not sure i have the stamina to enjoy PTH in a non-nostalgic way but signs in this review point to a differently realized version of the band so i'll give it a shot for sure
edit: alright here we go
first song starts with such a nice melodic moment, and it goes back to it 2 minutes in. i wish the song was that moment expanded, though after it comes down, there's this whole "where is the life i was promised??" part that is definitely a full jam hmmmm. oh a cool cheeky ending.
haha second song starts like a dave matthews tune, i'm into it. the lyrics are tough in the beginning for me to get down to ("the tradition of my family...") but it feels like a delivery issue which is just taste probably. this song sounds like a kezia tone to me. rody sounds good to me. kezia vibe is definitely coming from the drums above all else, punk vibe is back. also if you sleep in your jacket, it won't "appear warm", i don't know how you can see warmth on a piece of clothing. but yeah there's stuff to like in all of this.
edit: the lyric is "worn" hahahaha that's fine i'm back on board
the "women must pay for everything" is what i am here to listen to. that's fun. into the fun ending too, real nice and cheeky jams there.

I feel like this is a good record for all PTH fans whether you prefer Scurrilous and on or their first 2.
