that live vid is absolutely nuts! you rarely hear a voice so exacting and precise.

this is really nice, a lot better than most modern indie/folk out there these days.

Was lukewarm on the new one at first, but I love it now -- just grows and grows.

I really hated the new one off first listen. Was big sad.

I like a few songs on the new one, but the lack of discourse and ratings here is pretty telling.

wasn't too hot on the new one, either. the way she embodies characters from song to song is a double-edged sword - when it works the it feels deeply moving and authentic, but when it doesn't it comes off like low-budget musical theatre. there's moments on Warm Chris that are kinda cringe, to be honest - the silly high voice in 'leathery whip', or the southern twang she adopts on 'she'll be coming round the mountain'. it's like she heard everyone talking about her protean vocal abilities and forgot to write earnest songs. really love 'lawn' though, it's up there with her best.

I just listened to Warm Chris again after some time off. There’s something inscrutable about it which at first I think I simply dismissed as vagueness and lack of effective songcraft, but it’s sticking in my mind quite a bit in spite of tons of other more immediate and direct stuff that’s come out since. Still not sure how much I *like* it but in a way it’s nice to know somebody’s making patient, quietly weird music like that. I might need to re-evaluate this one too…
