how much does this sound like MO and how much does it sound like something I'd throw a 4.5 at?

"It would be very fun to make a top 20 MO song list"

This is mine from 2017, right after A Black Mile to the Surface leaked, so it's not entirely indicative of my feelings now ("The Silence" has probably grown into my #1 song) but it's still more or less accurate:

Only half like MO because the other half is Kevin Devine. If you like haunting atmospheres wrapped around delicate but thought-provoking indie-folk, then this will be an easy 4+ IMO.

Still can't get into that one (Black Mile), sadly. Like, very sadly. It sucks to see so many people love something that you wanted to love just as much.

hey nothing to be ashamed of, different strokes

also @neek, check the embedded track for my review, it's a pretty good microcosm of this album

"Just really don't love the album cover lol"

me neither, but if that's its biggest flaw then that's a good problem to have

Honestly they should have just gone with a full square of the abstract designs behind the face

It's the face that ruins everything, makes this look like a bad pop-rock album or something and totally isn't indicative of the artistic approach taken with the music

butt.

agreed, the album art is super questionable and maybe even lazy

This is definitely a textbook definition of why you shouldn't judge a work by its cover.

it's even worse when you look at the cover for II (quite cool) and then III (shite)

I expect this of a supergroup duo's first album....not third

Yeah I kinda like II’s cover. Damnit what is this sorcery?! Why did they choose this cover?

If they wanted art that really represented the album they should have either done something pastoral and serene, or spacey and mysterious. Like a UFO hovering over a farm field or something.

that would been perfect. only got thru the first 4 songs on my lunch, I'll need to give it a couple full spins before I start giving my thoughts on the music itself
