Even if this doesn't sound like Fall Be Kind if it's comparable in quality my excitement to listen just skyrocketed, easily my fave Anco release

I don't think it's quite on the same level as FBK (which is also my favorite AnCo), but it's easily their (or any AnCo affiliate's) best since IMO.

Boney - strangely I'd say Avey has more the happy knack for catchy hooks - example, this album is far more straightforward, songful and catchy than any PB solo album.
Person Pitch is a bit love/hate for me - sometimes the approach on that album is 100% not what I want to hear lol

I'm definitely feeling this a lot more on second listen. It's definitely a lot more engaging than Eucalyptus was. The bass-y stuff is really tasty.

Everyone stop trashing Eucalyptus please
I might bump that one up to a 4.5 soon

For the record I do like Person Pitch a lot, but I have to be in the mood - from the first three seconds I'll know if I am or not at the time
It seems quite unique among all the AnCo releases because it's the only one that sounds 'aged/vintaged' - obviously it's not authentic, but it really does sound scooped together from samples from another era

Down There came out just before a trip to Thailand and I remember that and Age of Adz being my main soundtrack - autumn 2010.
Remember lying in bed after a day scuba diving and listening to that album and trust me, if you've never heard the background sounds of diving...well that album really has that influence. It was perfect.

idk why person pitch has never clicked w me...seems like the sort of thing id love

yeah person pitch is a stunner. tomboy has some great stuff on it too. honestly, most of panda's stuff has at least a handful of keepers. panda bear meets the grim reaper is actually my favourite to listen to these days.
i've come around to down there a lot over the years, but this is easily the best he's done imo.

never even heard person pitch
I've always kept up with AnCo but not all the solo projects

That was a huge release at the time, surprised
|

the production on this is so sharp and so muddled at the same time, i feel like its an eclectic contrast that renders the entire Animal Collective solo discog virtually indistinguishable from one another
|
| |
I feel like the ethereal osmosis of their musical dynamics served them in establishing their charisma early in their career, but at this point has become a crutch that puts a max cap on their ability to create anything that stands out amongst their extensive catalogue

"I’m ignorant, I can’t even tell Avey and Panda apart on AnCo records, their voices sound exactly the same to me and I can’t distiguish their stylistic touches either. This could be a full AnCo album and I wouldn’t know the difference. :-/"
Avey's voice is the deeper one and he's not as good a singer as Panda Bear (imo). His mid to high vocals always sound pushed/stretched where Panda Bear's are smooth

He's the worse singer but the better vocalist

Noah has his gimmick and it’s bouncing from ear to ear while always sounding kinda the same. Avey is quite a bit better I think. Plus hearing him singing songs like this just makes me so nostalgic

Avey makes way more use of different inflections while Panda Bear could kinda just be swapped out for pretty much any indie vocalist
