Listening to this makes me sad that we will never experience greatness like this from X ever again. Now all we get is Yoshiki's self indulgent garbage, like Born to be Free. I really hope im wrong, and the the next album is actually awesome, but with what weve seen so far, the future is looking grim to say the least. I think hide contributed more to the band than Yoshiki would like to let on

Mmm. I think its hard for any band to replicate their first few years. The band is in such a unique state. The band hadn't become famous yet so they were probably pushing themselves day and night in an unsustainable way. They were probably living an addled lifestyle too. Partying and doing a bunch of blow with the foreward from a record company. Hide and even Heath leaving was such a shame too.

True, but even the album released at arguably the peak of their fame, Dahlia, is spectacular, and that was released many years after they blew up in Japan. Im not asking them to replicate what they captured on here, because clearly, even by 1992 when Jealousy was released, they were past this sound. But this new stuff they are releasing is soulless, generic, and hardly worth anyones time, and totally abandons what made me, and im sure many other fans, like them in the first place

If the new album ever does actually come out, it will probably be a total flop. I don't think they could ever really get over losing hide, especially now they're all middle aged.

oh yea no way. He was the heart of the band. Best to forget the 'new' album, if it ever gets released it will be at best a 2, and thats being optimistic

Been thinking a lot about what makes the original 4 (5 if we include Art of Life) albums so great. There was definitely a spontaneity to the music they released here that feels a little less polished and calculated. The experimentation with style became more prevalent each album, with songs like Love Replica on Jealousy and White Poem I on DAHLIA that are really daring for a band that was of their caliber, and really made them stand out as such an interesting act. I feel like perfectionism started infecting the band more and more, starting with Art of Life, though it payed off back then. But at this point, the perfectionism has caused album releases to take longer and longer to come out, and I honestly think its caused their current music to become to sterile and boring. There isn't any quirkiness or style anymore, and the songs feel uninspired. I like IV and Jade, but id give them up in an instant for more music like this.
