yeah singularity was pretty overlooked when it came out, the plebs were busy lapping up garbage tier military shooters and the fossils were busy complaining that new games all suck while playing the same 5 quake maps for the 10th year in a row

if you want another cool overlooked shooter with some interesting ideas (though fairly short) maybe check out the 2006 prey

then again you cant get it legally on any digital stores anymore...

A Link's Awakening remake was announced in today's Direct. Art style is a little too cute-sy for my liking, but everything else seems neat.

I mean, I guess you have a point there, but calling Vanquish obscure is kind of weird to me considering Platinum are kind of big, right? Like yeah, it isn't one of the most popular games out there but it also isn't something only a few people know.

yeah, that's what the original was. it had some cool designs, cool weapons, cool mechanics but not a lot of time and game to really show them off, i think it was like 4-5 hours somewhere in that ballpark. cool game on the doom3/quake4 engine.

the new one is something else entirely and graet at what it does, but definitely more niche comparatively.

it's a matter of defining obscurity i guess. a lot of sputcore is obscure by actual real life standards, even if its super overrepresented in internet music circles

Also, while we're on the subject of Platinum Games, another new Platinum game was announced in today's Direct as well. Hideki Kamiya is supervising it and co-director of Nier Automata Takahisa Taura is also in it.

I have to say, I feel bad for Platinum. They're working on like four games right now lmao.

Yeah, I only call something obscure if even in circles where, you know, people talk about similiar stuff, not many people know about it.

I'm not so sure, although I think Platinum has a lot of employees, so maybe it's like one big team. I'm not certain if they're all separated.

how many levels do you go though? like if a genre is niche to begin with, is a classic of that genre not obscure just because everyone who likes that genre knows about it?
