Yeah, Paste always leans towards singer songwriter indie, never the most diverse or challenging of lists but I still consider them fairly respectable.

Uncut letting everyone down with incredibly sub par albums by Yo La Tengo and Spiritualized in their top 5 - honestly two of the most 'by numbers' releases you could name
Sometimes Uncut gets a few unexpected gems in the list
Happy Low are appearing in a lot of top 10s so far, solid reinvention album

nah it's decent. i made a prelim decade list and this is about the middle in terms of quality
for indie pop/rock it's a letdown, so I can see why fans of those genres might be disappointed

Working back through the ‘90s the last few months has applied a slightly unfortunate perspective to the ‘10s
My top 100 albums for 1994 are on par with my top 100 albums OF THIS ENTIRE DECADE
That scared me a bit and made me question checking so many new albums
Hopefully 2019 is THE year of the ‘10s

Snail Mail, Lacy Dacus, Soccer Mommy, Courtney Barnett... none of these have any staying power which shows how lackluster the genre has been that they're praised as AOTY material.
