"Promises I Can't Keep" sounds like it genuinely belongs on Living Things
Also one of the best ones here

I think Jimmypop will appreciate Pitchfolk's review for this, it's pretty savage. And I disagree with every word. lol

People gave this record way too many brownie points. I remember seeing one magazine giving it a 4.5/5. I have to dig up the article to see which mainstream press it was, but they're setting Post up to fail. It really isn't that good. It's underwhelming especially with the limitless praise it receives. It's a quality release, but it's just okay. It's just a starting point. He did his job in finding a style and sound, but he didn't take any leaps. Why is it so hard to treat it that way?

Had this playing in the background last night, and honestly it wasn't that bad

For the Fort Minor album the positive reactions were really justified, but i don't understand how critics can like this so much

Cause everybody misses Chester and feels bad for Mike and they are happy LP (?) is still doing something

I can't get behind the album in that way. It's really just a decent generic alt-rap record. It's too long and inconsistent to get anywhere, but at least it lays a sturdy foundation. 3/5 is a 6/10, which I think is fair enough for this album. It's not really average because it actually tries to do something different.

Fort Minor and The Raid Soundtrack is where he peaked as a "solo artist"
Seriously, The Raid Soundtrack is up there with stuff like The Social Network by Trent Reznor & Atticus Ross
Best track on there is Razors out ft. Chino Moreno. Kinda sounds like Chino collabed with Trent

There is no way of saying this without sounding like an asshole, but I'm not exactly convinced by the happy ending of the post-Chester-death narrative that this album tells.
I'm really happy that Mike is doing great and releasing music, but Can't Hear You seems to me more like an attempt to put a bow than something earned and organic. Maybe because it's not yet been a year since Chester died, but I'm just not buying the I FEEL FUCKING FANTASTIC AND I SLAY tone of the song.
I don't want Mike to wallow in sadness, but this feels a bit off to me. Like a forced happy ending.
I would expect something a bit more nuanced, if hopeful.
I realize that everyone processes trauma in a different way, as well as the ironic fact that I expect the record to be about saying goodbye to Chester while it's mostly about Mike.

Post has enough depth to justify itself. Mike Shinoda is clearly mourning in most of the songs. The issue arises when the album is presented as something it isn't. The happiness that stems from the music is forced and out of place. It screws with the development of his mindset as the album progresses. We jump from Mike receiving that shock after the suicide to him as a rapper. Then we move way over to Mike as he is now, wishing he wasn't on Earth, resting after constant touring, his family, and a bunch of other stuff. It's never focused on one idea or concept. The album is titled Post-Traumatic which leaves one to believe the record is about dealing with a traumatic experience. The record instead acts like it's a pop album about finding yourself.

Honestly I think especially the wierd 'i'm cool and better than you'-raptracks completely ruin the vibe of this record. I think the happy uplifting stuff is just fine and I don't really think it's out of place, but cutting songs like I.O.U. would make this record way better

@DropTune and @Beardog thank you for making me feel less shitty about feeling weird about the narrative of the record.
I think Mike should have released a double album, one for the PTSD tracks (where's Looking for Answers???) and the other for the braggadocio tracks.
Then the two narratives wouldn't clash so bad with each other.

Yeah agree, just release two EP's or something. I kind of see why he wants this record to be inconsistent emotionally but the brag tracks are just too much. Doesn't make any sense, even in a record that's not supposed to make sense

I still find it enjoyable. 3/5 is a 6/10. That's a decent grade honestly. It's a good album that should be a great one.
