I'm not comparing the games tho, I'm talking about the awful fanbases. FNAF is so simplistic you could probably remake it in powerpoint if you have enough time, while undertale's programming alone makes the game worthy of being called a masterpiece. There is no comparison between the two, even if FNAF stayed as one game.

sounds like you're not super into the game and the fact that it has such a huge cult following bothers you. fan theories are just fine. some are prob dumb and some are probably onto something. i'm glad there's a community of people so attuned to the game and its many intricacies to fashion cool theories to begin with -- many developers (especially toby fox) fill their games with very subtle details, some of which aren't found until years after their release (this is especially prominent in games like dark souls)

I never complained about the size dude. My problem has been first and foremost how that huge "cult following"(the fanbase is way to big to be called a "cult following" at this point), takes the game so damn seriously.

yeah an indie game made by one person who was prominent in the earthbound and homestuck communities, which also happens to be one of the best for its respective style and genre in an industry that is further suffocating itself with a bunch of bullshit is going to have a following who take it very seriously.



its the same reason why FNAF was originally taken so seriously by people, because it was an indie game that did something different for indie horror games at a time when everything was a shitty slender/amnesia clone with a story that was intriguing in its format of randomizing the bits and pieces of a broken narrative. that is until Scott ran out of ideas and started making shit up as he went after game 2.

I really think the game needs to be taken seriously. It is one of those examples of videogames as a form of true art, but yeah, the community could chill a bit

If by "taken seriously" looked at for its innovative ideas and seen as possible inspiration for games in the future, than yes, it absolutely should be taken seriously.



I'm more talking about how the characters which are supposed to be goofy and charming(Sans for example) are given cringey-ass grimdark fanart/fanfics that portray them as overly depressed and edgy and ultra serious, when in the game they were goofy and charming. I come across that shit way more often than I wish and it always leaves a bad taste in my mouth
