this is fun. I guess the next most polarizing album will be the next Tool, but I'll be dead by then.

I gave up for that ever coming out. If it comes out cool but I'm not believing any news from the group.

They really can't release anything anytime soon. It's been now, what, 11 years? From this band? The expectations are so high, that even if they composed sth times bigger than Lateralus, people wouldn't notice. Tool's discography is what it is. It will only change after so many years, that people would have forgotten them and the new album, even if it's mediocre, would be considered as a pleasant surprise.

As a tool fan, I don't care if the album isn't even that good. If it just gives me a few new tracks to jam that's fine be me. I've expected they won't release another lateralus/aenima no matter how long they wait for the release and I wish people would realize that. In fact, the longer the wait the less impressive I can almost imagine it would be. Like I said though, I'm not expecting them to ever release the album and if they do it's really not a big deal anymore to me.

I agree with the whole review. Plus, if we take into account also how they advertised the whole thing - that is, that bloody awful marketing campaign done through their website with embarassingly bland CGI characters that seemed to have been taken off a bad phone game, it just gets more and more embarassing. I knew this would have been c**p just by having to look at their FB page for all these months.
While the music may be passable, albeit not more than a 3.0 since really nothing amazing happens.. The concept is abysmal, they touch any stereotype of dystopian music-related concept: the dude falling in love with the tyrant's daughter, the "gift of music" - 2112 anyone? - the tragic death of the bro, the tragic death of the gal that was obviously disguised and killed by her lover, the chosen one c**p, the writing on the wall... duuuuh guys, c'mon you're 50+ years old and full of money couldn't you have hired a third tier copywriter to write/think something better?
I think this disc was born out of LaBrie's enjoyment of his run as the protagonist on The Human Equation that happened last year. Too bad that Ayreon's concepts are much more varied, funnier, more theatrical and better written. I'm halfway CD1 and I want to throw the whole thing out of my window.
TL;DR: Gildenlow can write a better concept album while sleeping.

Gildenlow is making his new album currently and I couldn't be happier about it. If 2016 includes a new POS album, it's going to be a remarkable year.

Haken just announced next disc out on April, new Textures is good plus Hypno5e/Uneven Structure coming up this month I guess prog still does fine without these guys.
This is horrendous by the way, how cringey are the last three tracks? "our lives will be astonishing again!!!!"... Oh my god, seriously?

You know prog metal has seen some fantastic concept discs out in the last ten years, one of my favourites is a hidden gem called "A Tribute to Life" by Fragile Vastness (greek as you are Mythodea if I'm not mistaken) that tells the story of a soon-to-be father that gets cancer and spends his last months of life travelling around the world. It had Ray Alder doing guest vocals and the disc was amazing. Of course they never made money out of it and disbanded right after
Then there are DT and sheeple saying this is the best rock opera ever on their facebook page when they probably have heard one concept disc in their life other than this (Scenes.. ofc). Meh meh meh meh. The music biz sucks

I really really hope that they actually cap off The Perfect Element.

@LunaticSoul I get what you mean, man. I agree totally, there's just so many fantastic concept albums out there. I've known Fragile Vastness for a long time now, but somehow I haven't listened to their work. I guess I'll have to catch up!
@Ocean of Noise I don't know if they can, but Daniel has been going through a really tough - and I guess emotional - time the last five years, so maybe all this energy helps.
