Whisper rules but damn fuck the vocals so hard.
In fact, only BMF and NSV have good vox. I know it's 'all about the riffs' but damn, even Lord Worm can suck (case in point Once Was Not.)

I think "on-par with NSV" would be a better phrase. And yes you are correct. It's hard when a band has what is considered a "classic" in their repertoire to hit that level again.
