These guys need to get back to their roots. On the past two albums there's hardly any lines about 'wanting to change', 'walking lines' and 'life being a game'. Listen to This Is The Warning and listen for these lines. Atleast one of them pops up in every song. It actually makes a very good drinking game.
Seriously though, This Is The Warning is one of my all time favourite rock albums. It's similar to Karnivool's Themata in that every song is catchy as fuck and sounds like it could be a hit single.
The Catalyst Fire was just really underwhelming barring a few songs. When you take out the hooks from the songs, all you really have is a delayed guitar over a pounding baseline. The guys don't have the technical ability or songwriting skills to survive without those massive hooks and choruses. I Am and Lodestar were pretty cool though.
They changed it up with Aesthesis and the delayed guitars are more for texutre than a driving force. There are also some very un DLC like moments. That heavyish riff in 'Change The Concept' really caught me by surprise for instance.

Agreed Rowan. While You Wait is a giant pile of garbage.

I like While You Wait. The chorus is pretty catchy.
If i had to rate their albums i'd go
This Is The Warning - 9.5/10
The Catalyst Fire - 6.5/10
Aesthesis - 7.5/10
Because they're compared with Karnivool so much, what's the general opinion in regards to Aesthesis vs Asymmetry?
I think Asymmetry is definitely better but i'm way more of a Karnivool fan tbh.

Asymmetry is far better, that one's solid with crappy production and a few weak songs, this one is shite with like two enjoyable songs

Oh Asymmetry is miles better for sure. At least that record had an amazing song like Sky Machine and a more mature style.

I bumped this up, I'm pretty sold on the first 6 songs of this. For some reason the corniness doesn't bother me. It's a nice album. Even on a bad day DLC is still leagues beyond most rock bands.
Asymmetry is one of my favorite albums of the decade so far. But I overrate that album HARD cuz Karnivool is ridiculously amazing to me.

Asymmetry is a steaming pile of shit. I mean, I appreciate them trying something different, but there comes a point where you are no longer making music people want to listen to.

Wow. I have to strongly disagree as someone who had followed this band since the early days, the past two LPS were immense. This album is a strong follow up In my eyes, I don't think you've given the album an honest chance. I'm not sure what you expect. Everything that makes the music good is still present. Kims signature vocals and melodies are spot on and he even does a few new things with his voice. The lyrics are literally the same style they have always been, with repeating themes trough out. I found them very satisfying and interesting. Drums are heavy and powerful, big soaring chorus', delay filled guitar and thumping bass.I think they have produced some of the best parts as of yet, and I was not let down by this album one bit. It is very dissapointing that you have such a negative review, for such an incredible band and album. You are far too critical and are thwarting your opportunity to enjoy great music. If you like dead letter circus, or any kind of progressive or alternative rock, this album is a must listen. One thing I agree on is the terrible album art compared to the last two. I'm almost positive after a few more listens you will change your mind, I personally have enjoyed this release by an incredible band. DON'T BE IGNORANT AND MISS OUT ON THIS

Everything on this album sounds subdued and a lot of the "kick" and power that their last few releases had is completely absent from this album. Everyone sounds fucking bored out of their minds and it painfully shows. Also, just because someone didn't like the album doesn't mean they're ignorant ya moron.

Also, just speaking on behalf of Mongi still, he gave their last two albums a 3.5/5 and a 4.5/5 respectively. Did you know its possible for fans of bands to dislike what they put out?

This review is coming from a FAN. I wouldn't have given it as much of a chance if I wasn't. You can't enjoy literally every album a band puts out sometimes. Sorry but not sorry.

I've only heard a couple songs from this. Thought Plain Sight was pretty cool. Really loved their older stuff, so we'll see. Doesn't sound like this will live up to it.

You know you're damned if you do and damned if you don't when you are band who already has an established and unique sound releasing your 3rd album. If you change people will criticise you for losing that sound that defined you and if you stay the same you get criticised for becoming a parody of yourself. I personally think DLC has done an amazing job with their latest record. There are obvious changes and introductions of things that we have not yet heard, those heavy driving riffs in 'Burning Number' and 'Change the Concept', Kim's willingness to sing at a lower octave, Lukes drumming not being so energized and leading every song, Stews base which has been tinkered with to produce a different sound and with songs llike 'Silence', I mean it's a perfect song and DLC have managed to create a beast of a song that is more open, less saturated but still packs a mighty punch of emotional brilliance. I say a big well done to them! Also, they are playing In Plain Sight on Fox Footy as we speak! That sound engineer has some serious good taste in Music.

I feel like people are true fans when they realized their favorite band fucked up.

I hate when it's implied how "true fans" should love everything a band puts out. No, a true fan when love their stuff, but also let's the band know when they release a lackluster one and be honest about it.
