This is a great album , but up to tools standards ( Aenima and Lateralus) this album cant compete . Otherwise Right in Two , the pot and rosetta stoned are all really good. Some of the ambience from Carey seems recycled though. Really this album lacks that song that blows you away ie Third Eye, Pushit , 46&2 on Aenima or The Grudge , Schism , ticks and leeches on Lateralus.

Hey spacebeat try listening to 10,000 days (wings part 2) a few more times if you want to be blown away... tool standards have evolved, you think they would release an album that wasn't up to THEIR standards

I thought 'Vicarious' was more similar to 'The Patient' than anything else, particularly the guitar riffs. I see there has been an influx of sputnik users opting for 'TooL' avatars because of this release. :p

Great honest review dancing man. Sadly, I wasn't expecting such a negative review towards TooL. And it wasn't even that negative. Thats what people need to hear sometimes, so they can be more open-minded when listening and/or rating an album. I sadly do not have this album yet, although it just came out yesterday (where im at.) But give it 4 days at the most. I'll be back.

Hey kids, stop assuming I didn't listen to 10,000 days. Saying things are obvious is never a good idea because that is subjective. Instead just say "This is what I think..."

Also, Tool said that would be referencing Meshuggah on this album. It's just that the way Tool did it sounded many times less impressive than Meshuggah.

Ocelot - notice how the two tracks you used as examples in support of the album are the ones I said are actually doing something great.

I like this album less and less the more other people praise it. It is simply not that impressive and hearing others call it a classic and masterpiece has left me listening for all the reasons it is neither.

^ I agree. People praise albums alot before they even listen to them when it comes down to a band like Tool. Alot of people worship the ground Maynard walks on. This may be the worst album that Tool has ever done, or it may just be a joke from Tool - to see how terrible they can make an album, and see if these Fanboys will still think its a work of art. People will look right past all the bad things about it.

I dont know if this is even close to what you are talking about Dancin Man, but this is really how i feel that this is the way alot of people treat Tool albums. This Message Edited On 05.04.06

fuct, why if you're very negative to this album are you still giving a 4?

personally i do like this album, more than Undertow and Opiate but less than Lateralus and Aenima. good review anyways.

i haven't bought this album, i've only listened to vicarious, and i plan to keep it that way.

the comments for this album are yet another reason why i've lost the desire to listen to tool. i've been a fanboy for other bands before, i've claimed that pieces of shit are masterpieces, but at least i've had the respect to admit that i wasn't "right". music is a different experience for everyone. no one listens to a song the same way, so please stop assuming that all of the people giving this album a 3 are in some way lesser than you.

I've never listened to Tool. I'm not sure if I should try this album out or not.

Personly I dont think this album is very heavy, Ive read one of the other reviews (The first one I think) and agreed for the most part with what was said there. However he failed to highlight the faults, which very album has. You on the other hand have done the opposite, then again all albums need to be given a negative point of view as someone said before here.

I agree with some of the things you said but mostly I have to disagree. 'Most' of the tracks do NOT sound like a second lateralus with some exceptions such as Vicarious but that is not a bad thing: the songs still great.

I think the major thing pulling this album back is the anticaption people had after 5 years.

Waste of $14 on sale. Real let down, reminds of how Van Halen lost it when Roth left.

Except that Tool haven't started writing cheesy keyboard-heavy ballads.
Oh, and except that Tool haven't lost it.
Personally, I find most of this album to be great, and the title track is easily one of the best and most hypnotic songs they've ever written.

holy crap people its not like they spent 4 or 5 years writing and recording. they only spent 7 months recording the album according to meynard. if they guys want to take their sweet time on their albums fine by me and you guys should understand that they dont work 16 hour days writing for 5 years. danny carey does his drum clinic tour thing and has other bands, meynard haD APC and adam does his artsey fartsey stuff. and you guys should stop comparing this to previous albums and write a review on the music itself. people give tool so much shit on this album for stuff like 'it sounds too much like third eye' or 'they recycled riffs'. who gives a crap as long as the music is good and intriguing and as long as the musicianship is good. and yes an album of all intention woulda been really interesting but i think it would end up sounding too atmostpheric like APC. another thing. Meynard, Adam, Justin and Danny are mortal and not omnipotent. they are HUMAN. some people forget this and judge them too harshley. what if they have run out of original ideas (which they definately did not). who cares they still make great music and you guys need to calm down

I think it's worth buying. It's not as good as Lateralus but it's still a great album.

I think it's not worth buying. I also think that if you're too busy to spend the ammount of time necessary to release a good album, you shouldn't bother. 7 months is a lot of time to waste on something so disinteresting. 4 years is a lot of time to wait before you waste 7 months for something with so little progression.
