Excellent job on this review, man! I haven't even heard this album, and I find myself agreeing with most, if not all, of the points you make. I tend to find the albums that have huge cult followings nowadays (ones that the Internet favors, in other words), while good, are not as good to me as some albums that get lesser notice on publications and websites. Idk if you feel the same way, but I kind of got that vibe from your review as well

My thoughts exactly! I do like it, but there a few post rock albums that I like better. Good job explaining the viewpoint.

I would definitely argue that there are dozens of better albums out there by Godspeed's contemporaries, and even some of the bands Godspeed inspired nailed it in a more listenable fashion.
I can't shake the feeling that fans of this album are more in love with the fact that it's "difficult". Because it's so impenetrable, so glacial in pace, that "truly appreciating it" is taken as a badge of honor. I'm getting a serious emperor's new clothes vibe from most of the more adulatory comments elsewhere I've read, as well as being told I haven't listened to it enough yet.
Generally speaking, I'm heavily skeptical of anyone who tells me that the only reason I don't like something is that I don't "understand" it. What they're basically saying is that the thing is objectively flawless and only those incapable of decoding it could possibly not be a fan.

F#A# is absolutely the better album of the two, I'll agree with everyone who said so above.
