He wasn't writing anything period... I know from a source close to Emarosa that one of the guitarists of that band wrote all of Jonny's lyrics for him, and in DGD he would just improv. He would literally just go into the booth and drunkenly ramble and they would have to turn it into lyrics that made some sort of sense.

So basically I don't think it's fair to compare someone like that to someone like Tyler who clearly tries hard to craft catchy hooks, whether you like them or not. /rant

and what does that count for the artwork?
his singing complimented the more serious sounding dgd much better than tillians and I prefer that to "catchiness"
and damn im glad he improved cos it came out great, whats the issue in drunk improv jonnys lyrics were always pretty decent.
I don't get what your point is tbh

Fair enough... I'm a huge fan of DGD and Emarosa with Jonny in them so I'm not hating on him too much, and I do agree that he's a better singer than Tyler. My point was essentially that Jonny never put any effort or passion into his lyrics/melodies, as opposed to someone like Tyler, who wrote "Disappear" about his dead best friend for example, and made it into a pretty great song in my opinion.

"I'm not a fan of this brand of metalcore/post-hardcore, in fact I loathe it. I look back fondly to the early to mid 2000s when core bands had actual guitar riffs, and the entire high end wasn't dominated by electronics and overproduced clean vocals."
Seriously, thank you so goddamn much for this part of the review. I fucking hate this phase of -core music right now

You think the band name and album title are homage to Korn?
Oh, and the review is a bit whiny. Especially that last paragraph.

Metalcore is a mix of metal and hardcore, not a mix nu-metal, electronic, and pop with breakdowns. Metalcore is bands like Integrity, Converge, Rorschach, etc. I think it's kind of bullshit to even say that Issues is in the same ballpark as these bands.

not really, you can say a band is part of the same genre as another, and it doesnt mean you think their "in the same ballpark" as them (if by ballpark we mean similarity in how good they are etc). Issues is a metalcore band as they do mix hardcore and metal together. Nu-metal, electronic and pop are the genre they mix into metalcore, metalcore is most definetely their primary genre
and yeah theyre not very similar to converge and integrity, but metalcore has come a long way in the 20 or so years its been around, its not surprising that the metalcore bands of 2014 dont sound like the metalcore bands of the 90s. Its because metalcore developed into a wider range of styles that incorporated other genres, but that doesnt stop it being metalcore
