I like The Decline and American Idiot almost equally. Of course, glass shard fucking IS a fetish of mine.

Ehhhhh.... I don't think that's really true. Yes, at the time, Bush hate was at a peak, but Green Day could have just played it safe and released the songs "American Idiot" and "Wake Me Up When September Ends" on a Nimrod/Insomniac carbon copy and had it do just as well as their "punk rock opera approach" did. Instead they took a chance, and an album that should have been a disaster commercially ended up doing extremely well. Of course, I'm defending Green Day in a NOFX thread. I'm not expecting to change too many minds.

I sort of agree with deathschool. Green Day took a chance. Their career was going downhill and they brought it back with something most people wouldn't have expected. Sure the whole rock against bush was a trend and whatnot but not in the mainstream. Obviously we shouldn't even be comparing Green Day and NOFX in the first place.

Considering most NOFX fans call this their best, I was surprised to find it very mediocre. It has a few classic tracks (Brews, Don't Call Me White, etc) but as a whole it all blends into one and has little of the creativity and energy found in most of their other releases.
Valuum, WOE, and So Long... are far superior.
