Not going to lie, I like this album a lot. Losing My Insanity, Somewhere Close To You, Shitload of Money, and Cinderblox are fantastic. The rest of the album is tolerable, and the Wildfire duo is pretty good. I think if they had replaced the last two songs with something along the caliber of Dethaura or White Pearl, Black Oceans, I'd be tempted to give this a 4.

Took the words right out of my mouth about the Wildfires. If even one of them was up to par with the best SA "epics" they would elevate the entire album.

Absolutely. This album lacks an epic ending. The Wildfires are good, not great, and definitely won't be remembered as one of Sonata Arctica's better tracks. They needed a classic epic to raise this album to the next level, and in my opinion that's where they failed. The rest of the album is fine, with even a couple outstanding tracks.

I was actually expecting the Wildfire parts to be more note worthy as well.

The Days of Grays and Unia ARE their best albums though...

Kind of hurts to see this below a 3. Band still holds a firm place in my heart.

3 is about where this belongs... still don't think it's worse than Ecliptica though.

The main problem with this record is how it will affect their next gigs.
Take their latest Wacken peformance for example, of a very limited 54 mts setlist they still managed to play....5 songs out of this, and not even one from Unia or WG.

This record is fuckin weak, I love sonata arctica's works since ecliptica until unia. But the last 2 have been very bland and dissapointing

days of grays is up there. tho dreamflight and I are probably the only ones who think unia/TDoG are better than ecliptica/silence.

Absolutely.
I mean Ecliptica and especially Silence have some awsome songs, but at the end of the day they were just trying to emulate Stratovarius by playing generic PM.
On Unia and RN (to a certain degree) the band showed some will to step out of the confort zone by experimenting with song stractures and such (hell some songs don't haven have a chorus), while at the same time keeping all the great things from their PM roots.
TdoG in the end is pretty much Unia going orchestral but the result is an amazingly beautiful and awsome album full of depth and emotion.

Good review that I agree with entirely. I don't see the appeal of this band, but I don't really see
what made their old stuff all that much greater. They were still cheesy and lame, it's just more
fleshed out now that they have collected some dust.

They're both equally as bad, let's just listen to Reckoning Night and remember how awesome these guys used to be
