You say Crawl is a highlight, THAT is one of the worst on here, the main melody rips off Breath and the chorus is anticlimactic. It's not a bad song by any means, but it's nowhere near one of the best. Hopeless takes the similar style of Crawl (singing and screaming in the chorus), but does it better. And I was exaggerating about the 8 minute epics thing, I just meant that part of their progression WAS simplifying things a bit.

I think we have our Breaking Benjamin expert.

Whether that's sarcasm or not, thanks. I felt this album needed a positive review, so I'm glad to share my views on why it deserves a 4, even if I'm disagreed with.

It wasn't sarcasm at all.

Don't apolgise! I think i've told you before but i'm not a huge fan of this band but I think it's cool that you're out spreading the gospel and not talking shit, if you get what I mean.

Haha I'm polite even on the Internet. Yeah I gotcha, that's exactly what I'm trying to do, is spread the positives of bands without coming off as fanboyish. I respect other opinions on this, but I'm willing to back up my own, I put thought into this review so I could back it up.

I do think that this band shouldn't be lumped in with the whole "bad radio rock" crowd, they're better than that.

Definitely. They're doing what they want to do. They release a couple of singles, sure, but Ben has his own vision. "Radio rock" isn't really a fair label for them.

Sorry if Im wrong, but I think in this site, when a band is considered mainstream, it automatically
falls in the category of "bad radio rock". I consider Breaking Benjamin neither. They're alternative
rock, sometimes alternative metal, period.
And don't come tell me they're also post-grunge, they passed that phase since Saturate.

Nah man, people around here love Red and they are radio rock. Plus My Chemical Romance gets a lot of love too

It depends. Maybe My Chemical Romance is a radio rock band, but I think it is as loved as it is hated.
And about Red, you really think they're radio rock? I mean I'm not an expert, but I think they almost come to new metal...

Nu Metal was the radio rock of the 90's.

Haha good one xD
Ok, but look at Three Days Grace for example. I consider them to be much better than people here say. Except, of course, for the last album, which was for me a disappointment .

@DarkShowstopper: I do too, but it's harder to defend them, due to the fact that liking them is more of a personal preference, I don't like them for the technicality, just that sound they have I happen to like. The simple often repetitive song structure and not liking Adam Gontier's voice aren't really things you can argue against very well. (Although both of those things improved on Life Starts Now imo)
It's funny that a lot of these bands are considered radio rock, yet I really didn't discover most of them on the radio.

This is fantastic, a HUGE step up from Phobia, imo.

Woah, nice, a 4.5. I agree that it is a step up from Phobia, and as much I liked Phobia, I just much prefer the flow of this one.

The thing with phobia was, the songs all sort of blended together on the first listen. With this, each track feels clean cut, a lot more individual.
I Will Not Bow was a deceptive sleeper as well, it gets better every time you hear it.

I think Phobia had some fantastic standout tracks like Diary of Jane, Breath and Until The End, but overall this is a much more satisfying listen than Phobia, it feels like a better album experience. Like I said, nothing feels out of place here.
And agreed on I Will Not Bow, quality song, and it was a great choice for a single as well.
