This band kills it and then skins the carcass when they enter "high tempo mode" :-D

But yeah the band does. I hope they experiment with their sound much more in the future, I expect this

band to be one of those that will be remembered for pushing the prog envelope.

They're definitely one of the few modern prog bands I can tolerate. The novelty tends to wear off with a lot of these bands and cheesiness increases...

Can't argue with "high tempo mode", but I will say that is the ONE time where there is potential for Riverside to get cheesy. It tends to happen because of the vocalist's accent, tbh.

I have no qualms about the accent, it adds a certain character to the vocals imo.

It does it does...but sometimes...when things get reeeaaallllyyy heavy, the vocals get a bit out of hand.

Haha, let me make it clear at no point on ADHD (the only Riverside album that has reeeeeally heavy

parts that you're referring to) did I have a problem with the accent, and yes even the stop motion

section of Hyperactive, I actually love that part :-).

How about the accent, distorted vocals on Celebrity touch?

Haha, alright you know what part I might have been referring to ;)

Okay, the ones on Celebrity Touch aren't that bad, but seriously, I don't even like that song very much. Worst one on the new album easily.

His aggressive vocals aren't the best, he doesn't have that power to carry that intensity, his voice

can't cope and it feels very strained (we were discussing the accent earlier). But on ADHD there

wasn't any issue in this regard if I recall correctly.

On Celebrity touch and the intro to New generation slave they feel very strained, Mariusz doesn't

have a very wide vocal range, but he performs well in within his boundaries, especially the soothing

vocals.

Celebrity Touch was enjoyable at first but yeah I've hardly listened to it compared to other songs

on SONGs :P. We got used to us is also a weaker track imo, it feels like it was written with

"Conceiving you" in mind and so it doesn't feel natural to me, but it's still al right. Feel Like

Falling and the opener are really fun though.

And that is why they should do Ok type stuff more : )

Overall, I'm not digging the new album too much unfortunately. The previous 4 albums have all been nearly flawless but as soon as they released that EP Memories In My Head back in 2011, I thought things might start going downhill. I have both the EP and LP at 3.5 each, but it's quite generous.

I loved the EP, it had some infectious melodies and atmosphere's. The new albums a solid 3.5 imo, it's

not weak, but I definitely expected it to be better. It still has quite a few strong moments

nonetheless. It was always going to be tough to follow ADHD. I guess we'll have to wait at least 2

years to see direction they take now, not sure if they will make any drastic changes.

True, many songs have some great parts in them, but then the band goes back to being average imo. And of course you had to throw in the signature "ADHD ROOOOLZ" comment haha. I was hoping the new album would be more like it tbh.

'His aggressive vocals aren't the best'

What? I think that Duda's screams are classic moments in Riverside discography o.O

Dammit I don't want to be known as the guy who blindly compliments the hell out of ADHD (too late :-/).

I was expecting the new album to retain certain elements of ADHD while progressing forward, but when Mariusz said it would be very different then I was kind of excited because I thought this band would be experimenting with their sound a lot on successive albums, but the new album isn't what I was hoping for, I was expecting to be wowed.

@agg yeah his growls are good but his aggressive "clean" vocals aren't that impressive, he feels to strained.

ADHD is fantastic. There is no need to worry because you like it.
