Not Christian lol
And nah, this album fucking slaps.
Their first three albums are straight bangers, the rest of their discog is hit or miss

One of my high school gateways into more extreme metal. Still fun to go back to and I think it's the band's peak.

Yeah, it's a shame that they kinda just totally stopped being creative after their first 3 albums
I remember waiting for this album in insane anticipation after Palaces, then being wowed by this and heavily anticipating their next album...
Only to be disappointed continuously for like a decade in a row lol

This album is so fucking cool, ngl. Been spinning it again lately. Ordered a T-shirt with the cover art the other day. I hope it fits right. Band tees never fit right unless it’s Gildan and this isn’t gonna be a Gildan!

Sacrament was the last one I actually dig tbh. That being said I guess I'm kind of an oddball in the fact that chronically it was a steady downslide for me with New American Gospel being my favorite, although Palaces is neck and neck with it. The s/t Burn the Priest album by far takes the cake though if I were to include it

been forever since I listened to Burn the Priest, but I have a feeling I'd agree w/ you nowadays

Definitely worth checking out again man. The sludgy moments on there are amazing. Also love the drumming especially on stuff like Suffering Bastard and Bloodletting. My introduction to these guys was actually Suffering Bastard labeled as Lamb of God on Limewire. That track is probably the shortest thing they've ever done but one of my favorites easily.

So oddly enough, this is one of those bands I completely skipped out on until now. For whatever reason, I was always hesitant about listening to them, but I finally jammed this album tonight. And to be honest... I have mixed opinions
The vocals are really strong, there's some solid songwriting going on, and the musicians are talented for sure. But there's one big problem I have with the record, and I swear I'm not trying to sound like an elitist by this:
it's just not HEAVY enough.
I don't know if it's just the production, or maybe the guitar tone - maybe a combo of both? But this sounds so much weaker than I was expecting, especially considering the intense vocals and scathing lyrics. Hell, From Mars to Sirius by Gojira came out only a year after this and fucking crushes it in terms of how visceral and brutal it sounds.
I know it might seem like a weird complaint to bring up, but if I'm listening to a groove metal album that's influenced by thrash and death metal, I'm expecting a much more pummeling experience than this. Idk, I just feel like something is fundamentally missing here
I'll still give it a 3.5 since there are quite a few interesting songwriting choices and Randy sounds great on the mic, but it definitely falls short of excellence for me. And if this is considered their best album, then I'm pretty worried about the rest of the discog

prod is lacking for sure. Sacrament has a much better sound and way more lower-end to beef it up.

Check Palaces Koris, it blows this out of the water, the songwriting is mad inspired and riffs are fucking incredible, goated album

Not into these guys like I used to be but fun to revisit once in a while. Omerta is a badass song.

Solid album imo. The hype for this band just got out of hand in one point. I feel like people were hoping for Pantera like band in mainstream rotation. Mayebe they got bit too much hate back in the day because of it. At least they have something kinda distinctive going for them in these first releases.

Solid album. Koris’ production woes are readily explained by the fact that these guys, at the time, were regularly duking it out with Shadows Fall to see who could be palatable enough to appear on the most Blunt/Kerrang/Metal Hammer magazine covers (Shadows Fall won iirc)

But yeah, there’s really no reason to go past Sacrament (or even this) for anything but the Superfan
