I think they’re just aging gracefully

It's really fucking boring. The main riff is super weak and the chorus doesn't do anything interesting at all.

@GhostShelter

Niklas Sundin, Jivarp, Henriksson...

I wonder who is writting the songs now.

Agreed, those 3 guys were the driving force behind the band's songwriting. Henriksson and Sundin in particular had their hands all over the songwriting credits of their early stuff while their more recent material credits primarily Anders Jivarp. No idea who is writing now but will be interesting to see.

I just want these guys to write riffs again. Why do melodic death metal bands fall into the trap of "keyboards = atmosphere" and lazy, simple riffs. They key to good music in this genre is good guitar work.

But yeah new track was meh.

Found the new single decent honestly, a bit nondescript but as long as it ranks low in the album I don't mind it. Gotta say that they're lucky enough to have a singer that can carry the songs

New song is fine. Won't appease fans of the Damage Done - Fiction era, but could easily have been a B-side on the last three. Not single worthy IMO, but won't judge the album on one song.

New single isn't bad, but it's not great either. I think it's about in line from what I could reasonably expect from a melo-death band who has been at it for this long lol

Was kind of surprised to see Niklas Sundin on Instagram say this is the best DT song in years, in his opinion.

Intro is very nice then it just settles into DT by-the-numbers. Honestly sounds like a b-side from WATV

new song is sweet, better than 3/4 of the tracks off of WATV

I thought it was great. Love that pitch-bending synth in the intro and chorus. The keys in the bridge are very Icipher-like.

I don't really like the new single, but I'm not worried. They always seem to drop the most generic song as the first single.

Yeah, DT and Amon Amarth are stupidly consistent and are ol' reliables.

Fully expecting a 3.5 album from them lol

I think In Vain will have the best melo death album of the year.
