This album is better than One for Sorrow, and Across the Dark is also better than One for Sorrow.

I prefer both the debut and sophomore to this, and especially Winter's Gate, which is quite obviously their best. That being said, this is a pretty awsome album as well

Don't know what is so great in this album. Understand me right - I love Insomnium so much, but this album I don't know...like just a mix of DT riffs from Damage Done/Character + something more... Nothing really shine on here.
It's not popullar opinion, but here it is. I like Insomnium more from "Across the Dark" - this is where they started to sound like INSOMNIUM and not like some other band. This IS when anyone started to aim to sound like Them.
First 3 albums were like some training or jamming in the search of signature sound (that they will find just a three years after).
The stretch from Across The Dark till Anno 1696 (including) is Legendary. Just a bunch of flawless albums!

Winter's Gate is amazing but overall 00's Insomnium > 10's Insomnium, In the Halls and Since the Day are among their greatest.

Actually been on an Insomnium relistening phase for the past couple of months and this record really isn't that special at all as far as Insomnium albums go. I'll reiterate that the first 2 albums are better, Winter's Gate as well, with Shadows of the Dying Sun and Anno 1696 being both more enjoyable as a whole than this one. Really don't see how this commands so much respect now with hindsight. I've been a fan of the band since like 2010 and I really dig most of their stuff probably more than most people here, but this just isn't as exciting to relisten to. Bumping it down to a 4
On a less sombre note, Mortal Share fucking RIPZZZZZZZZ
