I’ve said it again and again but the version of charming man on here is one of the greatest songs ever and makes the original sound like shit. I even like the still ill harmonica 🤫

This album ain't all that honestly. Six of the songs here have better versions on their self-titled album, apart from Hand In Glove where I actually prefer the single version. They did You've Got Everything Now, This Charming Man and Still Ill especially dirty. The harmonica on Still Ill adds absolutely nothing to the song. I honestly prefer the more raw, unrefined sound of their debut album.
Also, How Soon Is Now? is one of their most overrated songs. It's great and all but I honestly feel like it gets way too self-indulgent towards the end. Everything that actually happens in the song happens within the first third. You could probably cut the whole thing down by about two minutes and it would be far more enjoyable. I'm more likely to skip it than not when listening to them on shuffle. Please, Please, Please Let Me Get What I Want is also boring and mid.
Their self-titled is better.

Goober me, but I find the situation to be more complex, I’m afraid.
Both versions of ‘This Charming Man’ are great. It is faster & sharper on the LP, while this is more organic, suits living rooms better than dancefloors.
‘Still Ill’ doesn’t need harmonica, so LP > this.
I don’t have a preference for the rest.
‘Please, please…’ is the flagship song of self-pity, it is just perfect. I’m sorry…
As for ‘How Soon Is Now?’, it may seem self-indulgent, but its structure is a precursor of the best songs by The Stone Roses, hence its length is warranted (post-hoc).

Pfft, easy.
Nirvana - Very Ape
And I don't really even like Nirvana that much

Their self-titled album has so much more texture than the rest of their discography imo. Their other albums sound too pristine. Part of why it’s my second favourite.
