I love Mr. November, but i want something more emotionally triggering in their closers, so i go with Lucky You

“thinking so strongly otherwise suggests exactly the kind of proclivity for the bargain bin NYC landfill post-punk sound that Mr. November lives and dies by” sounds like an excerpt from Admit It and now I’m giggling. You are correct that Lucky You features the strongest songwriting on the record, and is alongside Thirsty at being the most indicative of the direction the band would go, but I still prefer the one-off brevity of Slipping Husband, the pace and prose of Thirsty, and the quiet, crushing emotional intensity of Cardinal Eyes. Also gonna have to mention, once again, that Fashion Coat is kind of perfect with its plodding piano backdrop and surfy guitar, cheesy 00s synth insert, lyrical imagery. I’m such a sucker for this band idk man. Can’t do “objective” here.

“Gospel, really? Yawn” bro chill

“Lucky You is extremely overrated” it’s literally one of their most emotionally earnest and honest songs. They do so much with those two chords!

Extremely overrated was poor phrasing. I do think it gets talked about a bit too much for a band that has at least 30 better songs, a handful of which, as I said, are on SS

Got tickets to see The Natty in March and they’re playing a seated-only venue - horrified and distraught to think Matty B won’t be crowd surfing for Mr November any more

Venom radio and venom television

I'm afraid of everyone, I'm afraid of everyone

Lay the young blue bodies with the old red bodies

I'm afraid of everyone, I'm afraid of everyone

That is very good indeed

Yellow voices swallowing my soul, soul, soul, soul, soul, soul, soul, soul, soul, soul, soul

Easily the best track for me here.

[2] and [2] to that

stretch of Anyone's Ghost to Afraid is the biggest drag here to me (aside from the closer)

and this album is around the time the National made it their game to be a brilliant drag

Interesting, Doof! To me the way the guitar complements the vocals is very special. Can’t really explain why, it just clicks.

The band went from suave to arsehole after this album although TWFM is top drawer.

The band’s whole oeuvre is a drag lol. But I admit they could present it in a very delicate way, at least while they still had steam to run the engine.

I’m listening to TWFM as we speak, still need to find out what’s the hype about with that album.

The opener on it is one of their best songs.

To be fair I haven’t listened to it in years.

I gave up on the band but recently gave Boxer a revisit and loved it as much as I always have.
