yeah Verkligheten had some gorgeous melodies and acutally did things with them -- Ageless Whisper and Nuturing Glance aren't stylistically far from what the new one is trying to do but they're just so much better. The choruses on both just soar. When The Universe Spoke does it even better -- it could have fit on TLI.
Verkligheten was pretty but had an underlying intensity. Overgivenheten just feels noisy with no substance underneath.

Production doesn't do the new one any favours either. Everything is so weirdly mixed. Sometimes you can hear everything, sometimes parts mesh into a wall of indiscernible noise.

Googled it and it's the same dude actually on the last two. Should've stayed with Jens.

so far all three halo effect, arch enemy and soilwork albums have been 3.0 territory to me but only for soilwork that's a step down
new one seems to have the biggest pop sensibilities this band's ever had and at the same time their least memorable songs?

Overgivenheten is fine but was rather boring at points. The new Arch Enemy was down right derivative. The Halo Effect record was pretty good but nothing all that new nor special. I think In Flames might actually have the best melodeath album this year (out of the big names at least). Really disappointing year for the genre though

If anyone wants a new melodeath album that captures the original Gothenburg sound well, I recommend The Void Squadron by Moonshield.

The solo in Valleys of Gloam was great. Definitely was one of the best moments in the new album.
