Reading Austin's album introduction and then realizing this was released around the time of Kissinger's passing is...incredible. Makes you think of all the bombs that demon has brought upon the world before inevitably reaching his final milestone, all the while forcing 3 million+ people to meet there's much, much sooner than he did.

Really released at a great time, perfect dreary late autumn/early winter record.

I remember this band from wayyy back, just out of high school and just getting into ~real~ metal and it was very not for me, and iirc the drums were very extremely electronic/*programmed* sounding on the early work? And it def put me off it a bit on top of not being in my wheelhouse.
But seeing all this buzz and leaning a lot more into this style of metal I think I'm gonna have to check this one out.

@shape
Lol they're not programmed literally at all, although I will say Austin Lunns drumming becomes so much more dynamic from Roads, hell even Kentucky onward. Man is a kingpin wizard of drum fills.
Also yeah honestly I think this album takes a bit to really sink in, I was actually relatively underwhelmed by it on the first listen but I think it's just his most patient work. So I wouldn't call it the best representation of Panopticon but holy fuck does it have some shining moments, like the ambient build in Blue Against the White sweet fucking jesus

his drums have always sounded relatively organic, i'd definitely re-check his old stuff.

Very heavy s/t and Collapse vibes here yeah. Which is probably why I love it so much.
YES and I wish this would be his final album. Where can you go from here? What a high note....his whole discography consolidated into one.

His self titled & Collapse are absolute genre staples.

My first impression is that this is very good but i wish the guitar was a little more prominent. Probably his most "atmospheric" album to date

"Man is a kingpin wizard of drum fills."
I love his drumming but I think he gets too fill happy sometimes during parts where I'm just enjoying listening to him hang in the pocket. Part of what i like him for is that his drumming gives me a very live take kinda vibe
