Praise the Filth is great but man what a huge disappointment.

I'm spinning new Dying Fetus now and this rips so much harder.

forgot that one was even coming out. their albums always sound decent so no way it's worse than this one fs.

'They haven't made a good album since whisper back in 1998 25 years ago. What makes ppl think their going to start now especially with the below average singles lol'

to be fair, I haven't heard anything since Whisper so I was diving in blind...

And yeah, I wasn't particularly impressed. The synthetic-sounding modern tech production is a sore point and I'm not enjoying the vox either, they're pretty generic and lifeless

So is this representative of what Cryptopsy do now, or have they covered a lot of ground over the years?

I'd say it's kind of representative, but this is still way better than The Unspoken King and ATYB. On par with S/T I would say. Once Was Not is a completely different beast and it's one of the most underrated albums of all time imho.

For me the pinnacle of their new sound was both tomes of The Book of Suffering EPs. Very similar sounding to this one but they sound much more fresh, flow so much better and have a genuine sense of intesity that this one lacks.

This whole album sounds like the B sides of The Book of Suffering tomes tbh

PS: Hell I started to listen to the first BoS tome and it took just one song to get me more pumped than anything here. Those EPs rule so hard.

Yeah, Praise the Filth has the grooviest moment on the album. The ending section of this song breaks with the band's usual signature.

for the most part, this really channels earlier cryptopsy style riffs, without sounding too cheesy osdm. every song on here has some riffs that are worth returning to. pretty sure at this point tho I can safely say I'll never click with the vocalist. and yeah Praise the Filth is 100% a highlight

Honestly this is good but the new fetus blows it away imo. The production is really horrible agreed.
