This is good, not quite great. A bit better than LONELIEST TIME imo.
Sorta back-loaded, though. Best tracks are Psychedelic Switch, So Right, Put It to Rest, and Weekend Love, all of which are in the latter half of the album.
Opener is far and away the worst song. Maybe the worst thing she's done since Call Me Maybe tbh.

The opener is excellent... without that chorus

Counterpoint: that chorus.

One song in can already tell this is better than that mid album y’all never stop talking about

Percussion on tracks 1 and 3 are awesome. If 3 went full breaks at some point it would actually be a good song

this site really just can’t handle experimental music

Idk why the fuck she’s dabbling in synthwave and nu disco inspired tracks, those are by far the worst songs here and are way too late to the party but her other impulses are actually quite promising, i imagine her team wanted to keep things in check because it’s mainstream pop but if she took everything a little further this would be pretty dope

It’s a lot like new Kimbra where if they weren’t so afraid to commit to a stylistic direction it could be great but they scurred cuz pop

Reeks of “we don’t really know rn what’s the most viable option of styles that’s gonna become the next “in” thing so let’s throw everything at the wall and see what sticks” type beat

this album's main problem is that it's not being marketed as a b sides collection lol
put it to rest is the bestrest

wholeheartedly agree with pots on this.
there's 2-3 really interesting tracks here that kick her whole last album in the ass. Carly is a singles artist to me, i dont fucking care if she makes consistent LPs or not.

"Reeks of “we don’t really know rn what’s the most viable option of styles that’s gonna become the next “in” thing so let’s throw everything at the wall and see what sticks” type beat"
Such a cynical take. The amount of artists that actually think this way compared to the amount that get accused of this merely because they enjoy dabbling in diverse styles is probably ridiculously low.

I don’t care

Also, she's already dabbled in synthwave and nu disco before this. WTF do you think Julien is?
|
| |
Whether it’s for the enjoyment or to find the best bait the end result is a lack of stylistic cohesion that detracts from my enjoyment of the product as an album

Good for you not caring if you're wrong I guess?

“ Also, she's already dabbled in synthwave and nu disco before this”
And then it was topical and now it is stale, are you done?
|

“ you're wrong”
Prove it giga bozo

You're free to dislike stylistic diversity or prefer stylistic cohesion (take your pick), but the leap from your personal preference to some assumption about the psychology of the people making the music is a massive logic fail.
