I really thought it was over too. And to some extent I was okay with that. The self-titled LP and "Fields & Fences" were a perfect career-capper. But this EP feels like another rebirth, and I'm super excited to if they keep things going with an LP or two.

"Hiding in the Light" feels like the quintessential YC pop-punk jam, and Honest From The Jump is them at their most anthemic. Love both songs. I laughed my ass off during the midnight reveal in May, when Mendez told Key that the guitar solo he wrote in for him for Hiding in the Light was "meh". Pretty sure he was fairly drunk during that entire thing but he was easily the funniest and most personable member there.

Thanks man. All the positive feedback has been overwhelming in a good way...I've always felt connected to this band. Now I just hope I did it justice :-)

I just wish their old drummer was back. They were never the same since he left.

Even as someone who really loved Yellowcard (the self-titled LP), I have to agree. Parsons was a unique and irreplaceable talent.
With that said, this is easily the most revitalized they've sounded since losing him. As I wrote in the review, I think they've learned how to better mask his absence with faster drumming and more prominent guitar moments. Key also sounds punchier in the verses. It's the first time since Southern Air that I can truly say LPIII's absence is at least less noticeable. I'd still welcome Longineu back if he and the band worked out their differences, but in the meantime I think Nate Young has finally jelled with these guys. This sounds as dynamic as anything else they've done, to my ears (maybe minus some of those mind-blowing drum fills/solos that LPIII seemed to effortlessly work into every available space, lol).

I cannot recommend this enough. This blew me away as a long time diehard of the band. Tracks 3-5 are the stuff of legends.

For me it's tracks 2-4. The bookends are great, but I think Childhood Eyes tops them.

@Atari: Agreed! The self-titled still holds emotional power over me, but musically, this is the most weightless and fun they've sounded since SA for sure. What do you think of the Paper Walls comparison now that you've heard it?
@onionbubs: Yeah today ended up being kind of stacked lol. Let me know what you think of the EP when you decide to listen!
