I could see someone thinking it's safe because it goes back to the formula that actually worked for the band, but even if it were boring (which I disagree) I would take that over whatever horrific form of excitement MANIA was.

Always been a casual FOB observer but this is so fucking good. Crazy that this feels less Try-Hard than the new Paramore lol

Definitely not boring after repeated listens it’s magic reveals its self, Fake Out is just a slapper windows down roof open jam piece

Yeah the more I listen to Fake Out the more it's becoming my favorite here
Whole album is both immediate and a grower

Hell yeah. This band could reuse the same formula for another 10 albums and I’ll be cool with it. They can be my AC/DC

That would have been stupid because they were at peak popularity
Of course they're going to capitalize on that momentum

I would’ve too. Practically guaranteed money

I'll be honest, back in 2004 I never thought Fall Out Boy would become a household name.

I will take "pleasant but mostly unmemorable" over their last album any day of the week

really need to jam this but so much other stuff came out thats sharply different in mood from this that i just have not been in the right headspace for it lol. definitely intrigued tho this bands good stuff was a staple for me when i was like 13-14

Could just be the recency bias speaking, but I'm starting to think this is every bit the album that the big 3 (Cork/Infinity/Folie) were. I know it lacks a huge hit (thus far -- I mean, if Fake Out dropped in 2006 it would have dominated airplay), but it is so much more consistent than any of those records which levels things a bit.

Take This to Your Grave will always be their peak
Cork Tree had some bangers too

I love the opening verses in Young and a Menace but then it launches into the chipmunk chorus and things fall apart from there
If I'm being honest though I haven't listened to the whole album in at least 4 years
