Can't get enough of the lyrics on Rear View

They're not particularly groundbreaking but I still find myself weirdly shaken by a lot of the passages

I love the way Andy breaks into a soaring vocal for just two-three seconds in the second refrain, immediately returning to that really-fragile falsetto. Such a dynamic vocal performance.

They peaked twice; first with Simple Math and again with Black Mile. [2]

Although I think they peaked a bit higher on Black Mile.

Really digging this up and glad they continued exploration deeper into this sound. Hoping they return back with a bit more heaviness on the next release.

Yup, agree completely.

I also really enjoy this EP (seemingly even more than most). Supposedly the band themselves said they're moving in a heavier direction after this, so both of us may get our wish of seeing them shake things up again to avoid stagnation.

^ It’s inevitable.

Andy was featured on metalcore classic “The Artist and The Ambulance”s re-recording.

It’s all prep work and psy ops!!!

Opposite for me. I had middle-of-the-road expectations based on it not being recorded as a full band and very subdued/quiet, but for me this is the perfect coda for MMOG.

Song ranking:

Rear View (5/5)

Quietly (4.5/5)

Losing You Again (4/5)

Capital Karma (3.7/5)

The Way (3.7/5)

Letting Go (3.5/5)

I've also been listening to this a ton as sort of an alternate playlist/pretend LP. It has a lot to do with me listening to HOPE and the Swiss Army Man soundtrack a lot recently and discovering how much I love both of them, and I know it's total nonsense but I enjoy how it flows for some reason:

Capital Karma

The Way

No Rule

Quietly

All That I Really Wanted

Montage

Letting Go

Losing You Again

Rear View

The Ocean

Took a few listens to really get into it, but overall this is pretty great. Doesn't touch Black Mile to the Surface or even Million Masks of God, but it's still a great addition to their discography. Lose You Again Rear View are really damn good.

Oh yeah, it's definitely not up to par with their last two. But I love it as sort of a quiet exhale of a transition between this era of MO and whatever comes next.

Very nice sounding album. Doesn't really tickle my brain and make my spirit soar the way Black Mile and MMOG both do, both are damn near perfect albums imo.

I agree that this works great as a MMOG Coda, I'm glad this isn't a sound they went with for a full length that I would have been waiting for/anticipating as a followup to MMOG but as an EP it's perfect.

imo they were already dropping off with Simple Math, it has some songs I really like but I feel like it started to get a lot more bland after Everything to Nothing was very spicy. Cope/Hope did nothing for me at all and I was pretty much done with the band until I finally gave Black Mile a fair chance and was blown away.

And then I didn't listen to MMOG for a hot minute after it came out because I was afraid it wouldn't measure up but at this point I might like it more than Black Mile, other than the closer not being nearly as strong as the Silence which is prob their best track and will be forever hard to top.

I forgot, wasn't a shortfilm supposed to drop with this? Has anyone checked it out? Surprised it hasnt been discussed in the thread at all.

I've not seen it personally, but from several people I heard it was pretty whatever, nothing terrible but didn't do much to enhance the music either. I'll probably check it out at some point but feel no rush.

Keep teetering between 3.5/4 on this one because its nicest moments are *so* nice.

I feel like whenever a band goes through their "album that accompanies a short film" phase it's never a good sign

AFI did creepy videos leading up to STS and they are amazing (3:36) and they also did a video thing for their recent album and yeah, it was a meh album for them.

Rarely hits agreed tho.
