I'm definitely sold on that description.

This has some great songs but it is indeed quite weird as a full record. Seems very incoherent

The album is currently "Name Your Price" on their Bandcamp page. Of course, it would be good to pay what you can and not just take it...

This album is incredible, Hynpo5e's growth as a band has been remarkable to experience. Knowing Sheol was a companion album of sorts to A Distant (Dark) Source elevates both now that we have the full story. With the inclusion of a string quartet and more melancholic sections in Sheol, this serves as a the lighter of the two with more winding and melodic sections.

I can't give a rating yate as I'm still digesting it, but more people need to check out Hyno5e and support them. Their body of work is immense and worth the dive. Been a fan ever since I heard Alba.

Bone Dust is a great tune, really digging this release so far. I can't wait to dig into it more this weekend and see how it develops

I think I probably had it reserved before Mars was promoted. Staff has a 'dibs' system for reviews.

Cool. Glad people are still checking this out. It dropped during a busy week.

Hands down one of the most underrated metal bands of today.

I'm actually not too well-versed in these lads, but I do find their sound and its potential to be intriguing...

One step ahead of you matey, and I checked again in prep for this album. Can't meet y'all at the same level of praise; feels like they haven't fully realized their sound yet, which is weird to say for a band several albums deep into their career.

rating might come down after the hype, but I feel like they've got a decent grasp on a unique sound. they just need to cut some filler so their albums aren't always around an hour long

Consistency matters more to me. They cycle through their different sections without much regard for cohesion at times, and I'd rather them let their contrasting influences breathe (their prog/post-rock stuff vs. the -core/djent stuff) than just kinda enter and exit rapidly.

yea that's a good point, I can certainly see it being jarring for people. maybe in another 3 albums they'll have it perfected :P

That's pretty much my thoughts on this album. I feel like they were more cohesive with a better sense of forward movement on previous releases. Did you listen to Shores of the Abstract Line? That's my personal favorite. Tio, in particular, is a personal favorite song from their entire discography and it doesn't even check most the boxes their other songs do.
