Very few songs from YLT really connected with me on first listen, they're a band that tends to grow pretty hard with time (at least their best albums)

there's nothing quite like "I Heard You Looking", maybe my favorite YLT even tho it's just instrumental

I’ve gotta listen to this again, it basically went in one ear and out the other. The first song is kind of cool but also a bit dull. Based on the noodling build up I was hoping for something a bit less bland vocally

This album is very tight for YLT - really no fat or too many curveballs…some will like that, some will miss the usual structure.

Some of these instrumentals Wilco would kill for in 2023, so many times that band has wanted to perfect the scratchy guitar krautrock type track - this does that well on a couple of tunes here.

YLT classics - Aselestine and Brain Capers, but the last three songs as a trio are really cool too

I gotta try it again, it was super jarring on first listen. Some tracks just didn’t do it for me at all, like Tonight’s Episode which was particularly grating after a couple minutes. Lovely closer tho

I think Fade is arguably their best album

‘Tonight’s Episode’ is one I was thinking of as more ‘Wilco’y’’ but also one of those YLT tunes with a strange lyric quirk like ‘Nuclear War’ or something like that

Not a highlight but still real good imo, as is the song most pick out as weakest - ‘Until it Happens’, again a little bit Wilco too.

Gyro - need to revisit ‘Fade’, my reaction to that one was similar to your reaction to this

I mean I have revisited it quite recently and it sits on a 3.5, but I don’t feel I really bonded with it

I got some pretty big mbv vibes listening to a few of these tracks - notably This Stupid World. Until it Happens is fine, it’s unspectacular but w.e. I actually do like Tonight’s Episode too but that sound effect in the background gets on my nerves a little. Sounds almost like a failing generator they recorded for a few seconds and looped in the background of the song. I think you’re right on the money with Aselestine. Beautiful track
