I'm hearing a lotta AOTY smoke from friends, this thread, and beyond. I love IT, I really hope the burden of expectation doesn't leave me disappointed. Strapping myself in for a listen rn

I’m pretty sure I just listened to this but I’m so bewildered by the cacophony that I can’t even conjure up any sort of opinion yet
Was probably the same with Alphaville and that turned out rather well

This is not a secure 5 but these guys deserve a 5 from me. If this gets bumped down I 5’d either Alphaville or Vile Luxury

always a risky proposition with Sput, but on this occasion I feel you may be onto a winner
I definitely get the sense they placed an even greater sense of atmosphere on this vs Alphaville. Almost an amalgamation of the previous two records in that sense. Alpha was a bit more relentless whereas VL spaced out the cacophonous moments with eerie jazz segments.

I mean Alphaville was atmospheric af for me despite this, but it took a good while to really immerse myself in it completely. It went for the jugular with greater frequency.
Yes this thread is my diary now, wasn’t in response to anyone

Pretty much seals the AOTY deal.

already preferring this to alphaville. on-brand wackiness but feels less haphazard and more cohesive. great stuff so far

I agree that Alphaville was more atmospheric, this album doesn't have those melodic sections like the one in Atomic Age around the 5 minute mark (which gave it a 1930s feel), but it's overall better assembled.
Still, their last three records are mesmerizing, three excellent albums in a row!

this is shockingly bad

I think people that listened to Alphaville and thought it wasn’t cohesive heard the barber quartet sample and automatically disqualified it on that basis alone, lol
This is dialled back in some aspects but still goes throws in some crazy unwieldy transitions. They pull it off well, but I don’t see a huge difference. Then again, I’ve listened to Alphaville a ton.
