Ozempic should just be covered my healthcare for everyone. It’s also great for treating diabetes with little to no side effects. Pretty sick drug, shame the rich are hoarding it

While I agree that we shouldn’t pretend obesity is healthy I don’t equate being obese and saying “im trying to be healthy” with “I am obese and healthy”

I read that statement more as “even when I am making health conscious choices I still don’t lose weight and I’m just out here tryna love my body” rather than “I’m obese and healthy”

And you shouldn’t have to be healthy to love yourself and your body

the problem is that unless you have a genuine medical problem (which are exceedingly rare) there’s no way you can be obese and be “eating healthy”. it’s physically impossible to get that fat eating veggies and lean meats and stuff.

i don’t know how it’s possible to love your body when it’s that unhealthy. just the day to day problems obesity causes should be enough to make you consider changing your lifestyle.

but, of course, shaming people and being a dick about it helps no one. there is certainly a range of healthy body compositions, but “healthy at every size” is usually a coping mechanism for people who know deep down that their weight is a problem.

yeah you can be fat and love yourself and nobody should take issue with that, just don't try to drag other people down with you, especially an audience of many young and impressionable people who you are actively discouraging from doing things that could completely transform their lives and their mental and physical wellbeing. this isn't really controversial anywhere outside the internet but some people get weird about it. look how many people were genuinely upset when Adele lost weight

"I'm not trying to BE fat," she wrote. "I'm not trying to BE smaller. I'm literally just trying to live and be healthy. This is what my body looks like even when I'm eating super clean and working out!"

That's a lie, one never fails to lose weight constantly while eating clean and working out

it's not necessarily a lie, most people just aren't aware of how many calories they're actually taking in every day. they genuinely believe they're eating healthy because they've deluded themselves. and that sounds mean but it's actually very empowering to know that you have complete control over it through your own decisions, and it carries over to other areas of your life too

the real issue at the heart of all of this is that the standard western diet is genuinely terrible for your health and nutrition in general.

in fact, im doing some undergraduate research with one of my professors right now on the negative repercussions of food production in western countries. our main argument is that most people in western countries eat calories, not nutrition. the majority of people in America are actually malnourished even though they are overweight. it’s fucking sad honestly.

eat vegetables, fruits, nuts, and lean meats. skip basically everything that comes in a package or comes from a cheap restaurant. it’s nearly 100% bad for you

i believe it

the fact that like 70% of people are obese in america is absolutely mindboggling and depressing.

and those numbers look even worse when you break them down by demographics. the rates of obesity and heart disease in black communities in America is genuinely mind-boggling.

Directly from the NIH: “Nearly 1 in 2 non-Hispanic Black adults (49.6%) have obesity.”

HALF of all black American adults are obese. I can barely even comprehend how that’s possible.

you can eat whatever foods you want though and still lose weight it’s just about portion control

which is a good thing because not everyone is actually in a position to buy and live off super healthy foods but everyone is in a position to control their portions

you guys are being very unAmerican about consumer culture. forget health, people need to buy whatever pleases them the most and stay steady buying in order to keep our country from turning into nazi germany.

the bigger issue is food deserts. there are countless places all over the United States where accessing fresh, whole foods is close to impossible. the entire infrastructure weve created for producing and distributing nutritious foods is fundamentally broken.

until we tackle that problem head on, I don’t think obesity rates will fall. which is why i do believe that obesity isn’t entirely a personal problem.

it’s not entirely a personal problem in the sense that there are outside influences that cause it to be so prevalent but everyone is individually capable of avoiding it

I agree in most cases yes. but unless you have the resources and time to try to tackle the problem, it can be nearly impossible. there are places near where I live in rural South Carolina where the only food stores within 30 minutes of some people are dollar stores. those communities are usually impoverished and lack reliability transportation. how in the world are they supposed to access quality foods?
