Here we go! Screamo is on PA, off the way, off the way!
Seriously though, there are loads of different Screamo bands. Some of them play some sort of "emo-violence", which musically is almost like rough and primitive True Black Metal; some of them are more poppy and mainstream, close to Metalcore or Pop-Punk; but there are also some inventive and challenging Post-Hardcore/Screamo bands, like THE FALL OF TROY and ELEVENTH HE REACHES LONDON. GOSPEL is a lot like these mentioned two, but they also have their own distinguishable manner. Check "What Means of Witchery?" and especially "Paper Tigers" before claiming that these emokids can't play their instruments and/or write good songs! Highly recommended, especially for those who are tired of regressive Prog.

They preach to the choir, always in the permanent daylight
They toss paper tigers from their perfect porcelain skylines
After a just over 17 year hiatus from making music, one of the most explosive and energetic screamo and post-hardcore bands is back with their sophomore record and although I might not be crazy about it, I see where the hype is coming from. Heartbreaking and energetic vocals, loud and abrasive guitars and drums, and that droning and religious piano/guitar work that is laced within each track. This album really does make screamo music feel like a religious experience. For me, though the album does come off a bit flat and one-dimensional which doesn?t help my listening experience much at all, I still find the album enjoyable as a whole.

"Hopefully it's clear I'm not accusing you of rock purism or anything, and I guess it's just a matter of different tastes."
shit sorry, page break - yup sorry, got you and broadly agreed. just the thought of rock purism is enough to get my paranoia up and my defensiveness, uh, very up :[[

Colton I haven’t interacted with you very much here so I am wondering if you like any metal or punk or hardcore in any capacity

@Johnny that's understandable I'd probably smash my tube amplifier and submerge my DAC in acid if I thought someone was accusing me of rock purism so I gotchu

the album leaves me feel unsatisfying, some songs ends without reaching their wildest (Bravo, White Spaces, Metallic Olives) and others just start to get exciting and then they end hastily (Hyper, Tango, S.R.O and all three songs have similar patterns of build-ups)
Only Warm Bed made me feel like they laid out the emotions in full. Deerghost is cool as well.
i don't know. another possibility is that I am just biased towards skramz

uhh I like PUP and some other punk bands and Daughters pre-allegations and ISIS is alright and I didn’t hate Million Dead
calling PUP 'punk' is a stretch. okay okay they're "pop punk" but that's very very very tangential-at-best compared to the hardcore aspect of punk to which Jester was probably referring.
not trying to pick a pedantic genre fight, I know Colton wasn't even the first one to bring PUP into the conversation (sry, notag 💙) but i'm more curious if Colton has ever liked anything remotely punk / hardcore punk / post-hardcore totally absent the pop leanings.
