it's in that nebulous ground between emo, post-hardcore, and indie rock, all of which are tags they use on their Bandcamp. None of them are super helpful descriptors since they all include such a wide range of influences and sub-movements but [shrug] what can ya do

i would definitely call this emo before any other blanket 1-2 word genre

Yeah I feel like this album is very much the “core” emo sound insofar as there is one.

Album for me is alright, although i will give it more listens eventually. Strange Interactions In The Night is an absolute killer tho. Maybe one of the best songs ive heard all year

Hasn’t quite clicked for me quite as much as I hoped, it all sounds very good when it’s on but only about 4 songs have really stuck with me.

@Boney: I'm turning out pretty much the opposite way tbh. I wasn't too impressed on first listen, but subsequent spins revealed a lot to love here.
4 for now, could be a 4.5

I get A Bunny’s Caravan and The Hotelier a lot from this, and definitely Brand New (the awful things climax remind anyone of the climax of Limousine from TDAG?) but the record is interesting enough musically and vocally that it never feels like worship or copying.
The few lines that Christian Holden sings in Sagittarius A makes me want new music from The Hotelier so fkn badly. What a song though, the vocals at the end hit different. Overall this is fantastic, however like others, I have no idea why breathe:subsist is placed second in the tracklist, or on the track list at all; it’s totally unnecessary here. Apart from that though, damn.

Listened to this again today for the hundreth time, and it's getting better and better.
Aging very well indeed, could be my second favorite Hotelier album, lol.

Zack Shaw under the name Little Heretic, who sings on a few of the tracks on this, and lead singer of Backwards Dancer, has released a great LP and EP this year.
If you like Elliott Smith, or early Bright Eyes, it is worth checking.
