Good review! I've said it so many times now but I can't believe it... These Black Claws is so bad, it's like a nightmare.

Oh shit, this thing is SHORT. 9 songs, and 2 were pre-released as singles.
Straight Lines & Head Mounted Sideways are still fine. Some really great moments.
24 Light-Years is one of the few truly great tracks here. Well done start to finish.
These Black Claws is actually fine too, just not my cup of tea with that feature. I like the chorus.
Freak I cannot stand, it's saccharine forced ballad nonsense. Just not for me.
Napalm is like a 6.5/10, I don't hate it. Same with the generic Future Bird, though I like the fun little bridge section like 3 minutes in.
Stone Leader Falling Down is a 10/10 and all I wanted out of more VOLA. Can we go back to an album of heavy shit like this? What a blast.
Inside Your Fur is a lot of fun too, incredibly catchy. A perfect VOLA song.
So I'm torn, this is REALLY short and is primarily made of songs that I don't like, but it redeems itself more than Applause of a Distant Crowd, which contains exactly 0 songs that I listen to. 24 Light-Years, Stone Leader Falling Down, and Inside Your Fur are a blast.

@Nomos - they actually released 4 as singles lol. First 4 tracks were out before the album dropped

Haha seriously, they released 24 Light Years and These Black Claws too? I probably saw it posted here and didn't click because I was so ambivalent to these guys. 4/9 tracks. About half the album. Incredible. Easy for me to laugh at, not being a musician trying to strategically market a new album I can't perform, but that shit's been getting worse for years and ruins the novelty of whole albums for me. Preaching to the choir I bet, but seriously, wow, 4/9 tracks hahaha.

One of my favorite human experiences that I can have is anticipating an album, waiting patiently for release, getting my .zip or Spotify ready, making a tea, smoking a spliff, leaning back, and absorbing an album with my eyes closed and straight GIGGLING through my first time hearing new material and savoring every second of it. Having heard upwards of a third of an album pre-release ruins that flow for me, where I sit up straight, check the track list, lose my immersion, and skip to the next song I haven't already heard. Yuckerz.

Just giving this a spin and currently on track three. I bet on my nun these type of bands are about to get cloned somewhere in a bunker. This lacks any sort of artistic expression so far and to cap it all off, '24 Light-Years' relies way too much on being a Leprous/Coldplay hybrid.

@Nomos - yeah half the album. Crazy. and +1 for the immersion experience. Mine used to be driving in the car, but covid has made it my headphones
