Saw tomahawk live once. Really anoying stuff with more than half a dozen mics in Patton's front.

I really like the first two albums and like putting Anonymous on in the background when I'm working on illustrations. This has a lot of moments that put it well above Oddfellows and is definitely worth listening to.
I kind of wish the best tracks from this and the handful on Oddfellows were put together as an album. Would have been a great listen.
Like you said, it's not breaking new ground but it's a solid listen.
Edit: I think one of the things I find off putting about this is the production sounds so clean. S/T and Mit Gas have a veil of dirt on them that makes them feel more compelling. Like you just peeled a bandaid off and realize the wound is starting to get infected. This doesn't have that.

Oh man, the best 5/6 tracks from this + the best 5/6 from Oddfellows would probably be their best album

never listened to a Tomahawk album before, prob a totally different experience tho...just sharing my old memories

The time between their albums goes up by 2 years every time, so I guess we won't get the next one for 10 years

yeah, the production is awildly bland on this, which is a shame because most of the songs are cool
also don't quite get the hate for Oddfellows at all, that was the third in the s/t -> Mit -> x trilogy for me, easily, and also had at least some of that dirt/experimentation not just in the songs but the way they recorded & produced it. the main killer on this album is the fucking drum sound. kick & snare sound straight out of a "Modern Rock 101" preset box. at least the guitars sound pretty good
Patton's clean & dry all the way through, which would be odd even on a Faith No More album, but in a way I guess that's actually kind of refreshing considering how much he's done with different mics/filters in the context of a single song throughout his career

that's all after 1 listen so maybe i can get over it with a few more - have a feeling the live versions of these will be a lot more pleasing to listen to, tho
unlike DDDeftoneDDD i was thoroughly satisfied with Tommy live when I saw them. it was during the Oddfellow era, don't recall Patton having a bunch of mics in front of him but he was working with some sort of mini-control center (which in retrospect coulda just been a laptop on top of a huge cart we all assumed had a bunch of stuff inside.) There was one moment some dude crowd-surfing hit it or something and Patton whacked him on the head, lol. It was also the night I met my (now ex-)girlfriend and I was spending most of the night trying to block oncoming moshers from knocking her/us out - long story short I wasn't entirely successful

Tbh I'm not sure whether or not I'd like Tomohawk.

judging by your rating wheel I would say definitely not.

@Dedes cheers + I'd say maybe go with the s/t or Mit Gas, but they're all basically variations on the same record so sure why not lol

‘judging by your rating wheel I would say definitely not.‘
The wheel can lie, it often does. Beware the wheel. I’m almost certain there are more than 7 genres and maybe some people are even capable of liking more than 7 (+ idk about anyone else but 1.5 of mine aren’t even legitimate genres).
