"Thought her last one was boring af"

I respected it more than I liked it, which is my way of meeting you in the middle on that statement. I definitely don't feel the urge to keep returning to it, but when I do, the talent is self-evident. I think I gave it a 3.5, which feels right. This one feels so much more dynamic and momentous. It's right up my alley, at least, even if it's not for everyone. Appeals to my love for all things smooth, shiny, and epic ;-)

Damn, I didn't know this review already blew up so quickly. Thanks for the feedback everyone!

@Blush: Unfortunately I've seen plenty of people say that Julien's music was getting less "authentic" over time, and it's not just her. A lot of female indie singer-songwriters seem to get that same criticism tacked onto them; I've seen it with Phoebe Bridgers (especially that whole "industry plant" argument) and Soccer Mommy as well, for instance.

As for the lyrics, I'll keep delving deeper. I do like the idea that her take on religion seems to be different with each album, as well as her personal stance on her religious background. With how she's evolving as a songwriter, I suppose it's natural that something like that could change over time

Hmm, this is decent so far! A little light on real standout moments but I reckon it'll take a few listens to unlock

Yeah, this is my aoty so far too. Although if Ichiko Aoba delayed her album by just one more month, then that one would take the cake

Am I the only one who thinks she sounds so much like Nanna from Of Monsters and Men on Relative Fiction? I say that as a compliment to Baker, by the way.

Seen this name floating around for a while and never check out her music for whatever reason. Is this the best place to start?

@Bandit sure. Or start on Phoebe Bridgers discog and then hop over here when you're bored. About the same base.

Okay cool. Yeah I've listened to Phoebe a bit and figured they were similar.
