Haha, yup. That's exactly what I experienced too. The quality guitar work and drumming stands out right away, but the melodies are pretty subtle.

A longer moon and the room it was are such strong closers, probably my favourites atm

Also the lyric "Am I older now or am I just another age?" In Oslo is so simple but effective, rly love that line

Yeah that line certainly stands out.
Glad to hear that you're loving A Longer Moon, too. That was the moment that took this from a 4 to a 4.5 for me.
Only Light is another strong track. I love how apathetic the vocals sound in the chorus, but the melody is so catchy that it hooks you anyway.

One of the better Cloud Nothings records I've heard, although I've never fallen wholeheartedly for them. They've got a nice sound going here, we'll see if the songs grow on me with repeated listens

Only Light and The Room It Was are tied as my favorite from this record. Only song I dislike even a tiny bit or consider weak here is Nara, and it'll probably grow on me since I'm a sucker for anything that sounds like that last Hotelier album.
Still can't figure out the time signature or groove on Only Light's verses tho, that pace is confusing as hell until the chorus for me.
EDIT: Just kidding, Nara is pretty great and makes me feel better about life so this album has no problems

We are graced with a Sowing review in 2021. A joy to read. Thanks for your perspective!

Well this is def more exciting than what they did on those last two albums, not sure where I would rank this yet

Pretty dece...agree with gyro that line probably stood out more than anything about this. Almost Doug Marsch level inane profundity.

This review confirms my suspicion that the album they put out in '18 that's basically "Here and Nowhere Else" redux has gotten totally memory-holed

I don't know about LBB being Nowhere Else Redux, there's nothing like On An Edge, The Echo of The World, or So Right So Clean on Nowhere Else. It's just got a darker, harsher edge to it even on the poppier tracks.
It's also their best but apparently that's just me

You're probably right, I just think they both have a similar sort of frenetic energy to them. Regardless it still has to go into the "punk" category. I think it's a little uneven, "Leave Him Now" is prob a top five CN song for me though.

I love that there really isn't a weak track, either
Every single song goes

Just been out running to ‘Here and Nowhere Else’ in the sunshine - goat runner’s soundtrack, esp ‘Pattern Walks’.
Will always be their pinnacle for me

Lovely record and I don't doubt this band has great running music. Sound of Alarm here is top-tier in that regard.

Really solid album front to back. I think it's probably my most listened to album of theirs by now (though that doesn't say a whole lot). But it's made me go back and revisit to their older stuff which I've always sort of been lukewarm about except a few standout tracks.
