"General rule of thumb, bloc, is that if it's a core plurals band, it's probs trash, unless it's Textures, of course."

You might actually be onto something...

And agreed Silhouettes is godly

This will be a grower for me. Sunhead was instant, this not so much

That first little distortion drop in Impulse Voices is really something

I mean, the main issue of his first full length was the awkward drum production, and that is fixed. Everything sounds amazing...

I never had a problem with the drum production on Handmade Cities, but Chris Allison's got a lighter touch than Troy Wright. Troy's great but he's more a hard hitter. Allison is more suited to Plini's style imo

So I reckon that might have something to do with it

Pure joy, which more than I need in this awful year.

Pan might be the best song he's done so far god damn that sax solo buildup and climax is godly. At first I thought this was a small step down from the Trilogy (still my favorite) and HC, but this is growing on me very quickly. t/t is also incredibly fun.

The drums on Handmade Cities really sounded like a drum machine to me...

Nah, definitely real drums. Simon Grove is credited with the recording if you check the album credits on bandcamp. I think Plini's pre-hc stuff was programmed tho

Plini got Marco Minnemann on The End of Everything, but everything before that was purely programmed I guess

Yeah the first two of the trilogy were programmed, rest was real drums.

Cool, then it's just production being awkward.

You can actually hear it if you listen to it knowing it's him. His style is pretty recognizable but you don't notice it unless you listen to it with him in mind.

Tbh I've neglected the trilogy in general, I got into Plini with Handmade Cities. This is motivating me to go back

I'd suggest listening to it as a single album, it's really something special in my eyes and still my absolute favorite from him. The way Heart's theme comes back in Sweet Nothings for instance *Italian 'delicious' hand-gesture with the fingers together to the mouth (you know which one)*.
