sounds cool, moving Dummy to the top of my list

Dummy is honestly probably the best Trip Hop jumping off point by far
|
| |
yeah strongly agreed pots, super palatable while still capturing the essence of the genre

Think Mezz is flashier and more exciting as a way in, but both are perf

Mezz was my way in, and the Portishead's s/t, haha! Left a huge impression on me as a teen. Lovely records.

"Think Mezz is flashier and more exciting as a way in, but both are perf"
Maybe, but it's also a bigger risk
you know Colton isn't going to like Man Next Door lmao
|
| |
I honestly can't recall whether I heard Mezz or Dummy first
I'm guessing Mezz because I found out about it because of that fucking Dillinger Escape Plan cover EP lmao

I'd share that (Edit: referring to the Man Next For comment) him then. That's the one dud on Mezzanine, together with Group Four not really appealing to me for some reason. I really don't know why but Mezzanine has always been a bit uneven to me. Some of the all time highs (Black Milk), some tracks that don't do a lot for me.
|
| |
man next door fuckin slaps tho
|
| |
Man Next Door and Group Four are both awesome af, Horace Andy is just an acquired taste and I understand how some people just can't vibe with him
Not sure what on earth could possibly be unappealing about Group Four tho

@Ryus: So many people say, but I think I'll never agree.
@Pots: I know, and it isn't about the Andy either, loooove him on Angel and even on Big Wheel. It's just something about that particular track that doesn't work for me at all. And I don't know what it is about Group Four that puts me off, but I never finish it.

The "DRIP DRIP DRIP DRIP" part of Man Next Door is straight up one of the best parts of the entire album
Hard af album to rank but
Black Milk
Dissolved Girl
Mezzanine
Teardrop
Man Next Door
Group Four
Risingson
Inertia Creeps
(Exchange)
Exchange
Angel
Something like that
But a lot of those are super interchangeable (or EXCHANGEABLE HAH) and Angel is only at the bottom for me because as the first MA song I ever heard I've just heard it way too fucking many times
|
| |
"man next door is a sleeper bop"
yes
"people say dark side of the moon is the lovers album but they're wrong its mezz"
yes
|
| |
Somehow I managed to hear Teardrop before ever seeing the opening to House I think
|
| |
At the end of the day I'm not sure Mezzanine will ever be dethroned as the greatest album of all time for me so ranking feels very arbitrary. Shaking the Habitual comes close tho.
|
| |
Well although Mezz is my GOAT album, The Knife is my GOAT band so you should get on that

Hmmm
Black Milk
Mezzanine
Group Four
Dissolved Girl
Angel
Risingson
Man Next Door
Teardrop
Inertia Creeps

looks like we agree a fair bit, and also on Angel - didn't burn it out, but I defs overplayed it when I got into the albu
|
| |
Yeah thats a good ranking. Teardrop could float around on mine a lot depending on how burnt out on it I feel at the time too. Definitely heard that one almost as many times as Angel (so approximately 50 billion). Also TBQH Paradise Circus kinda dethroned Teardrop as the GOAT MA soul-crusher for me.

Fuck I just started thinking about The Knife Live At Terminal 5 and teared up a lil
|
| |
Jesus fuck I can't even skim through Shaking the Habitual without crying thats embarrassing
