My eyes were certainly a bit dusty on first listen haha

I'd already put this album in my top 5 of the year and it hasn't even fully clicked for me yet

Same here. It's tough to say what will follow in 2020, but as it stands this has more character than anything I've heard this year. That should equate to AOTY if I'm not seduced by something shallower but with cool production 😎

Agreed 100% about the character of the album. It seems to be more of a true reflection of the people that created it then be overwhelming majority of what I've listened to this year.

Absolutely. The debut had the energy and the trumpets (Pink Lights is still the coolest song they've made), but this one tugs at your heart. I also love the emergence of Temor on the piano. His efforts really shine here.

That piano in August is what I was talking about earlier about being just organic in grounding you back into the music after that experimentelle stretch before. Its just well played...and placed. And then everybody freaks out on White Lichen which was a highlight for me.

It almost brings you into the room where it was recorded. I like to imagine them performing in an old Western saloon.

I love the tempo change at the end of August. Such an underrated moment (relatively speaking because the whole band is underrated lol). I wanted to mention it in my review but couldn't bring it up organically.

White Lichen is also a cool song. I love the part where he's like sing/talking really fast.

Yeah, my favorite moments in general musically are those that catch me off guard (like that rapid fire sing/talking thing).

For me that offguard moment was Mercy. It's basically ambient post-hardcore lmao.

I love the whole album obviously, but the opening trio is where it's at for me. Crushing lyrics and beautiful melodies, I just can't help but get borderline choked up.

Yeah I get that, they're beautiful songs. I just love that stretch because it feels like getting lost and spinning your wheels a bit until you get your bearings. Its a bit unhinged which I dig.

I love that about this band in general. Their debut was the same way... they always keep you on your toes without sounding haphazard.

This band name reminds me of Rik van de Westelaken all the time. He's one of the main anchormen of the Dutch public broadcasting organisation 8 'o clock news. You too, Jesper?

Should I listen to this? I like Rik!

Haha yeah I get that. Although last season was good once again as far as I'm concerned!
I'll check this when I'm 'in the office' (read: working from home) again next week!
