would you say this is MORE than a cash grab? because that’s the impression i got from them bringing the band back, especially given Wayne and Tony had fallen out prior to his death

Well they clearly put effort into it, I don't think they'd have put quite as much work into it if it was little more than a cash grab.

I still love Wisconsin Death Trip to this day and wow a worthy tribute to the late great Wayne! Saw em’ play at a couple clubs in the late 90’s (fun as hell) I remember reading about the project, but I am absolutely surprised what they managed to do with b-sides and demos and isolated vocal tracks. Oddly enough Static-X somehow managed to craft their best album at least since Shadow Zone. Looking forward to part 2. Hell, the songs with Edsel on them sound great/arguably better; I think they should continue on afterwards under a different name preferably. Awesome

Is this album actually decent, or is it just a part of the Blackstar effect where mediocre albums are hailed as a masterpieces because the artist died?

who said this was a masterpiece? it's just a really, really solid industrial metal album. in all honestly, i account the great quality to tony etc for piecing it all together, because let's be honest, static-x haven't made an album this good since the start of their career.

@DrGonzo that might be due to Koichi having more input in the songwriting too. He played a pretty big role in the first album but when he came back for Start A War onwards, he played a lot less of a role in the songwriting as Wayne started to take control of the creative direction of the band. But it's always been clear Koichi can bring the riffs for Static-X.

I mean, I still think One More Light is a pretty mediocre album, regardless of Chester's death. As for this, it's just about as good as Static X gets. Nothing mind-blowing, but nothing terrible or average either.

wowzers, very good, solid album. I always had pretty memories of this band and I'm happy to see that they aged pretty well.

Getting really hard to keep giving Static-X second chances. Can't be blamed for Tripp obviously but Koichi's a bit soft in the head too.
