They could benefit from a shorter album for sure. Unfortunately there is absolutely nothing new that they haven't done before on here. At all.

That was a spicy take. Sounds like you really had an axe to grind with the production, which wasn't as much the case for me. I'd give it a 2.5 or maybe a 3. The pieces are there, but the songwriting gets so incredibly monotonous after a while.

Music withstanding, I always liked their consistency with their album art. I just always dig when bands do themes like this or Type o negatives green color schemes.

PS: I also never used the words 'objective or 'subjective', and definitely never said you should adhere to one or the other.
Yeah i wasn't trying to say you did. I meant to equate 'objective' with the avg sput rating. Even if by definition you can't really do that an avg of something is as close to truly objective we can ever really get
I didn't read the review tbh, cuz i don't care that much about this album, but from other stuff of his i've read he's usually pretty on point so i tend to believe he's not the click-baity reviewer type

Maybe I was in a good mood or something, but I liked this album a lot. I set it at a 3.5 for now, but I see it going to a 4 after a few more listens maybe

I used to defend these guys' consistency by chalking it up to "if ain't broke don't fix it," but it's getting a little ridiculous at this point. Can't they get some new sounds and styles in? Bring some post-hardcore or hell, even chunky 8-string guitars just to do something different

R&R is still their peak that they'll never again get anywhere close to

""can we go back and recognise they peaked at leveller now"
"That’s a weird way to spell Thrill Seeker""
LOL I can understand people who say Messengers/Constellations was their peak, even the weird "they peaked at leveller now" isn't that far fetched but come on Thrill Seeker? I guess at this point, it wouldn't be weird to hear people saying they peaked at 'Looks Fragile After All' either.

"...August Burn Red’s overly consistent approach to their 2020 piece leads to a less than okay performance disgorged onto the awaiting fanbase."
I haven't heard anyone who is actually a fan of ABR feel the way you described. This is a solid ABR release. Not their best by any means, and it definitely backtracks the melodic-guitar driven sound of the last two previous releases, but it also brings new things. You briefly mentioned it, but Jake is evolving into a Sam Carter level screamer here (see Empty Heaven, Lighthouse, Paramount). I agree he's not there yet, but it's some of the best work he's done vocally in years. I would understand a 2.5, but a 1.5 is probably just you not liking this style of music lol. The back half alone (Ties That Bind - Three Fountains) are all at the least solid 3.0 songs, Ties That Bind is probably a 4.0. (imo)

Thrill Seeker played around with dissonance and odd timing more than anything they’ve done since then, and the more raw production sounded better than the slick style they’ve adopted. I also like Josh McManness’ vocals a lot more. Every album since Messengers has just felt flat to me and they’ve never recaptured what I love about the debut. Is there more I need to say?
Also no album has had a closer that even comes close to The Seventh Trumpet

Three Fountains is soooo good. This album definitely has its standout tracks. Not sure why its rated lower than their last snoozefest of an album.
