A big surprise, one of my favorite records of the year so far, the concept is very interesting. Andreas Kisser in recent years has been thinking about good concepts for the records.

Yeah, the concept of the 4 liberal arts and its social bridge was a good call. I never got to study the Quadrivium, to be honest.

Your rating rules, btw

It kind of sucks but I give them props for trying to go the more modern metal route.

I'm kind of puzzled here, I must say. The album loses its momentum in the second half for me, perhaps because of its incorporation of more progressive and symphonic elements there. Your review makes the album seem more consistent than it really is, I think. For me it's more like two widely different albums merged into one. But you're right about the quality. Some of those thrash tracks floor me. This band is back in business.

Consistency is going to be more up to individual tastes. It's not really realistic to expect a review to cover all the differing opinions.

Thanks for your feedback DePlazz.

My review only mirrors my impression of the album, it's always a subjective output. However I indeed find the album consistent. Those contrasts you mention are purposeful, with the aim of creating the diversity attached to the concept. The second half has some of my favorite tracks such as Guardians of Earth, The Pentagram and Agony of Defeat.

Same. I'm a little more partial to the proggy songs.

That's a fact.

Andreas has been adding more and more progressive elements to his songwriting, something that I find interesting. Making Beneath the Remains 2.0 doesn't seem like a goal for these guys.

No worries, the consistency thing was not meant as criticism. I liked the review because it made me listen to the album. To me personally the contrasts in the album do not work as good to make me appreciate its 'concept' as a whole. I'm a bit more partial to the album's thrash side, but these guys going prog is interesting in itself. And I'm excited that Kisser showcases this kind of songwriting talent at this point in time, apart from being the great guitarist he is.

Now excuse me while I go and lower my score for Annihilator's latest in comparison to this.

Crazy stuff, I was thinking the same thing, trying to figure out why you gave Jeff 3 in comparison with this album.

Gonna give this a couple more listens. The Pentagram is a sweet instrumental. The symphonic parts of the album remind me of Believer. Means to an End is my current favorite, such a thrasher.

Thanks Titan bro. Don't know why.. if I'm not mistaken, you love thrash, right? I think you've got a handful of tracks here that you can enjoy.

Thanks KJ. Max-era Sepultura is long gone ;) yet this album definitely deserves our attention.

Cheers Jethro ;) Thanks for stopping by and for your words of encouragement mate. I've been having a lot of fun writing, it's my small contribution to the site and bands, which always need some online recognition.
