Really like Transit Blues, and the singles were quite good. Hyped
After listening: Guess I can agree on the review, I think the record is really diverse and way heavier than I expected it to be. Especially fond of the clean vocals, which I found to be pretty annoying in most of their records. Love how Jeremy doesn't always go for the high register in the songs

So far this has seemed more consistent and fun to me than Transit Blues. Would be shocked though if I find anything that bangs as hard as evergreen ... The Thread just came close tho!

This is peak Jeremy for sure. He sounds great on this album, it's awesome to hear how much he's improved over the years.

Holy shit who is this band and what have they done with TDWP. I’ve never rated a full length of theirs over a 3 but this is verging on a 4.5. This album is phenomenally produced, the music is grimy and gritty while still having a polished sound, and Mike and Jeremy are at the best they’ve ever been.

"Mike can't really sing. As far as I know, Jeremy does all the cleans. The lyrics on this are pretty cringe. I'm trying to like this but I just can't."
-> gives Shields life in exile a 4.5

Uh Shields lyrics and vocals are much better than this. Also, Mike's vocals have been on the decline since Dead Throne. He definitely doesn't sound better here. Like someone else mentioned, I think people are forgetting how they've sounded their entire career. Jeremy doesn't sound better here either. Songs like Chemical and Please Say No are poor attempts that are not up to their calibre. I'm a big fan of this band too.

Great example of a band that’s been able to evolve just enough to survive the post-scene era

Damn can we talk about how hard Spiderhead slaps?

Sure, I'll say no.
This feels like an episode of twilight zone, where I can't figure out why people are enjoying this. I really enjoy this style of music, too, but I feel like the arrangement choices, vocals, and song writing in general are just pretty bad. I do agree that the artwork is awesome, but it's maybe more practical for a black metal/drone metal album? I don't have anything good to say about this, other than that it could be worse. I think I do like the direction that the band is taking, but it's just like they missed the mark track after track.
Good review, MrGentleCat.
